Multi-Auger Chip Conveyor

Four augers in the machine pan draw chips forward to a belt-type chip conveyor

The Multi-Auger Chip Conveyor System removes chips from the machine quickly, with minimal coolant carryout. Four side augers transport the chips to the front of the pan, where they are collected by a heavy-duty steel, belt-type chip conveyor, and discharged at standard 55-gallon barrel height. The system is ideal for high-production machining applications, and can be activated via M-code, or directly from the control pendant. There are user settings to control the interval and duration of the conveyor cycle for automatic operation, and the system automatically reverses if a jam occurs.

  • Prevents chip buildup in the enclosure
  • Ideal for a high-production environments
  • Automatic reversal upon torque overload situations
  • Activated by M-code, or manually from the control pendant
  • User settings to control cycle interval and duration for automatic operation

Multi-Auger Chip Conveyor – Option Spotlight

The multi-auger chip conveyor makes chip management that much easier. With 4 side augers and a front conveyor, it’s perfect for milling operations that create lots of chips. The augers keep the chips pouring onto the chip conveyor, which then discharges the chips at standard barrel height, keeping your machine chip-free.

Reduce Your Coolant Carryout – Haas Automation Tip of the Day

In this Tip of the Day, Mark shows you how to program your chip conveyor or chip auger to keep as much coolant inside your machine as possible. With the cost of coolant these days, you can’t afford to miss this video!

Chip Auger

Our auger-style chip conveyor automatically removes chips from the machine, while compressing them and wringing out the coolant. The chip chute’s lift angle minimizes coolant carryout, and the 33" (838 mm) chip ejection height allows the use of large chip bins.

  • Automatically reverses if a jam occurs
  • Activated via M-code, or from the control pendant
  • Settings control the interval and duration of operation
  • Automatic operation increases energy efficiency
  • Lift angle minimizes coolant carryout
  • Compresses chips, saving space in the chip bin

Settings That Control Automatic Auger Operation

  • Setting 114 CONVEYOR CYCLE controls the interval at which the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor) will start automatic operation during a cycle.
  • Setting 115 CONVEYOR ON-TIME controls the duration the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor) will run during automatic operation.
  • Setting 196 CONVEYOR SHUTOFF specifies the amount of time to wait without activity prior to stopping the auger.

NOTE: The operator doors must be closed to operate the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor).

Program Auger Operation

  • M31 starts the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor) in the forward direction to remove chips.
    • Once started, and the machine is in cycle, the auger will run for the time specified in Setting 115 CONVEYOR ON-TIME, and then shut off.
    • Once started, and the machine is in cycle, the auger will restart after the time in Setting 114 CONVEYOR CYCLE, and run for the time specified in Setting 115.
    • While the machine is in cycle, you can start the auger by pressing the [CHIP FWD] button on the keyboard. Once started, Settings 114 and 115 have the same effect as described above.
    • If Setting 114 is set to zero, automatic auger operation will not occur.

  • M33 stops all automatic auger operation while in cycle.
    • Manually stop the auger while in cycle by pressing the [CHIP STOP] button on the keyboard. This stops all automatic auger operation while in cycle.

Manual Operation

  • Press the [CHIP FWD] button on the keyboard to start the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor) in the forward direction to remove chips.
  • Press the [CHIP REV] button on the keyboard to start the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor) in the reverse direction to clear a jam.
  • Press the [CHIP STOP] button on the keyboard to stop the auger (multi-auger, or belt-style conveyor).
