The thermal growth sensor mounts directly to the spindle head casting. To access the casting you will need to remove the coolant knob [1] and spindle head covers [2 & 3].

Remove the Peel & Seal patches shown [1 & 2]

Mount the thermal growth sensor onto the casting in the orientation shown

Find the smaller Peel and Seal patch (4" X 4") and vinyl foam tape inside the service kit.

Place vinyl foam tape onto the center area of the sticky side of the Peel and Seal patch.

Leave roughly a 1" border of exposed, sticky, Peal and Seal patch around the vinyl foam tape.

This is a view from inside the spindle head casting.

Apply the smaller Peel & Seal patch, with insulating vinyl foam tape, onto the mounted sensor inside the casting [1].

No part of the patch should touch the front face of the casting.

The vinyl foam tape should be between the sensor and the patch.

First add a ferrite filter to cable 33-2232 and plug it into p45 on the I/O board.

Next, route cable 33-2232 from the I/O board, along the spindle motor power cable, up to the junction box/panel shown.

Mount the end of this cable to the junction box/panel in spare slot #2 highlighted in red. 

Next, route the sensor cable along the spindle motor power cable, to the top of the spindle head casting

Apply dielectric grease into each plug then plug the end of the sensor cable into spare slot #2 highlighted in red joining the two cables.

This connects the sensor cable to the cable routed earlier (33-2232) from P45 on the I/O board.

Apply replacement Peel & Seal patches to the openings shown.

Re-install the spindle head covers and coolant knob.

Apply the patch included in the service kit, and upload current configuration files, then verify by going to Current Commands, then Timers, then cheking that "Macro Label #1" reads "1.0" and "Macro Assign #1" reads "32270".

Last, Check the I/O page for A-Input 10. The value should read between 350 and 800.

•    If = between 0 and 100, check connections, check plug, and check if firmware is latest version available for the machine's I/O board.
