CNCMedia: Based on what criteria did you choose Haas machines for training purposes?

Miklós Lukács: These were not our first Haas machines. We had already used Haas machines in production, before they were chosen. We deemed it important that students could learn in a real environment what it was like to grab a piece of work or stand on it. We consider it essential to be able to teach not only in a simulation environment, but also to use the machines for training purposes. 

CNCMedia: And what are the experiences so far?

Miklós Lukács: The machines proved to be a good choice, both in terms of value for money, and for instructional purposes. The most important thing about such a machine is that we can teach the basics to the students smoothly, and we are completely satisfied in this respect. Our current students have mastered the basics of being a machine operator in just three months.

CNCMedia: In what construction do the trainings take place?

Miklós Lukács: Dual training takes place in cooperation with local vocational training institutions. They teach the theoretical classes, and we teach the practical classes 6-7 sessions a week. In the past, post-graduate technician training was two years, now after the transformation of the vocational training system, the training is only 1 year long. In addition to cooperation with vocational training institutions, we also deal with adult education.

CNCMedia: What other institutions are you affiliated with?

Miklós Lukács: The Ady Endre Technical School and High School of KSZC Nagyatád and the KSZC Nagyatád Vocational School provide us with students, and within the framework of dual training, engineering students come from the University of Pécs. They also write their dissertations on topics related to our company.

CNCMedia: About how many students graduate each year, and how many of them stay with the company?

Miklós Lukács: It varies, 12 to 24 students graduate from us every year. So far, a total of about 150 people have obtained machine engineering technologist or CNC machine operator certificates from us. The company usually hires 2 to 5 people every year. Most of them were in the year before last year; then there were 7 who stayed with us.

CNCMedia: Are you able to use tutorial videos created centrally by Haas?

Miklós Lukács: If there is any special procedure, we usually draw the students’ attention to the video materials. We tend to use these for illustrative purposes if, due to the shortness of time, some special procedures unfortunately cannot fit into the training.

CNCMedia: What is your experience with the Haas controls?

Miklós Lukács: We are very satisfied with them. We can show everything on it that we need. It’s completely user-friendly, so typing something doesn’t execute the wrong instruction, but prints an error code. The physical version of the operating manual is in English, but the Hungarian version is included as a PDF, so we can use it without any problem.

CNCMedia: What kind of relationship do you have with Bartec GmbH, that represents Haas in Hungary?

Miklós Lukács: We can freely consult them either in connection with programming or with regards to discovering machine problems. If something needs to be repaired, they will come and resolve it within a week. The relationship is really good.

CNCMedia: Do you find it possible that starting five-axis trainings would start sometime in the future? 

Miklós Lukács : We are currently thinking in a three-level training. A completely basic, then a professional build-up on it, up to three axes and finally five-axis training. This is now being organized, which we want to do on a corporate basis. By the way, we also have several active 5-axis machines, so the practical part could be performed here.

CNCMedia: How did the pandemic affect you? Did it have any effect on your trainings?

Miklós Lukács: We have training rooms on the upper level, where we can also hold theoretical classes, but due to the pandemic situation, we currently only hold practical classes. We couldn’t really do these online, so we opted for enhanced protection measures and decided to continue them.  Of course, the use of a mask is mandatory, as well as disinfection, and grouping to keep as few people in one room as possible at a time.
