Looking back on a history of more than 3 decades, “SZUPPORT” Kft. specializes in the design and manufacture of special manufacturing tools and components for special purpose machines. Their state-of-the-art machine plant consists mainly of Haas machine tools, to which they are committed, due to their excellent value for money, versatility, and the high quality of the services of Bartec GmbH, which provides domestic representation. We talked to Ádám Holló about their experiences with Haas machine tools.

CNCMedia: How can you best articulate the structure of your company?

Ádám Holló: I call ourselves a small family manufactory, although at the moment, only I and my father-in-law from the family are in the company. Still, perhaps somehow this wording describes us the best. The personnel working here is very stable, we also had a colleague who retired from here. Similarly, we have long-term cooperation with our partners. We have been manufacturing and supplying parts to our largest partner for almost 20 years. “SZUPPORT” Kft. itself was founded in 1990, but it has a decades-long professional history as a tool maker.

We generally manufacture special-purpose machines and special-purpose machine parts. It is rare for us to produce something in series, but that is very far away from us. Parts made by Haas machines, for example, are always absolutely unique pieces. We also have recurring work that results from re-ordering the worn parts of an already manufactured special-purpose machine. However, typically they are also a few piece orders. We produce targets, a complete machine whose parts are made here or are assembled here.

Unfortunately, series production has the disadvantage that low cost is always the main consideration. In the case of individual parts, quality is more important. Obviously, the price of the latter is also important, and in the case of series production, quality is also important, but the focus shifts elsewhere.

CNCMedia: What are the criteria for choosing a new type of machine?

Ádám Holló: We always take into account the criteria that a new machine must meet based on the recent period. Our goal is to outsource as little work as possible, so many times, the primary consideration is to buy a machine that can do jobs we haven’t had the opportunity to do before. In addition, it sometimes happens that we simply want to switch from an old machine to a new one. In both cases, we first look at what Haas has to offer.

CNCMedia: Walking around the sites, this is also reflected in the machine plant. I see at least 5 machines here from the same manufacturer.

Ádám Holló: Whatever works once, one tries consistently to seek. Of course, value for money is also important, as it does matter whether we pay 100 thousand euros for a machine or four times as much for one with very similar capabilities. But most of all, good experiences weigh in the most. In addition, it is not negligible that the additional options are compatible. For example, if I’ve bought a fourth-axis before, but it doesn’t fit into the budget to buy it for every machine, I may as well just transfer it to another machine. If I were to buy another brand of machine later, I would have to buy a fourth-axis for it.

Our latest machine was installed over two months ago, it is still fresh. It was manufactured in 2020 in America.

CNCMedia: Do you have good experiences with the Hungarian representation and service?

Ádám Holló: We have two main contacts. They help with all of the new machine purchases to choose the right machine type for the job, and can also give advice on what additional customizations the machine should be equipped with. We get good support from all service lines. When there was a problem with the electronics panel of one of our machines, we reported it over the phone, and a service colleague came out the same day. He determined what the problem was and immediately found out which part needed to be replaced. It all happened very quickly, so our experiences are especially good.
