Both the Haas Front tablet and the Haas Tool changer tablet are connected to the Control cabinet via a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch. This chapter covers how the tablets are wired in. 

Both the front Haas tablet and the back Tool changer tablet need to be wired to the machine to communicate with the control. This is done by adding a Power Over Ethernet switch to the control cabinet and connecting all devices to it. 

Note: If the machine also has a robot, it will also be plugged into the POE switch. However, if the machine is additionally connected by Ethernet to the machine's local network, that will not be plugged into the switch; it will be plugged into the normal Ethernet port on the side of the control cabinet. 

Danger: At this point, there should be no electrical connection to the machine. Electrical panel must be closed and secured. When main switch is on, there is HIGH VOLTAGE throughout the electrical panel (including the circuit boards and logic circuits) and some components operate at high temperatures. Therefore, exercise extreme caution when working in the panel.

Plug the USB-A-to-ethernet adaptor [1] into the main processor. Specifically, into either of the two USB ports just below the Ethernet [2] port on the side of the electrical cabinet. 

Important: If the machine already has a robot, this step must be skipped as the existing adaptor will be used.

Note: If the machine will receive a robot, but it is not yet installed, the robot will be plugged into the POE switch. 

Starting in June 2026, select machines began shipping with control cabinets featuring PEM nuts added to the left-side sheet metal.

By the end of 2026, all machines will be shipped with these PEM nuts. If the machine has PEM nuts installed skip to step 3.

For machines shipped without sheet metal with PEM nuts, the POE switch will be held in place by two magnets [1] included in the field install kit.

For installation using PEM nuts,  locate the PEM nuts [1] on the side of the electrical cabinet. Place the DIN rail [2] onto the PEM nuts, aligning  the PEM nuts with the holes on the bottom of the rail, and secure it in place using a nut.

Mount two DIN rail mount clips [3] onto the back of the universal ethernet bracket [4],  making sure they are facing the same direction.

Attach the clips to the DIN rail by pressing the curved end of the clip onto the rail. While still applying pressure to the curved end, press down on the opposite end until it locks in place.

Note:  To remove the clips, press inward on the curved end and carefully lift up the opposite end.

Connect the POE switch power cable P/N 33-1678 to P5 on the PSUP PCB.

NOTE: If P5 is occupied, use any available 4‑pin 120V spare port

Use the shortest included Ethernet cable [1] to connect the POE switch [3] to the USB-A Ethernet adaptor [2]. 

This procedure covers how to add the wiring required for the front Haas tablet. 

This procedure does not include instructions for installing the Power Over Ethernet (POE) switch. See AD0973 How to install a power over Ethernet switch for instructions. 

This procedure applies to the following service kit: 

• 93-1001357 HAAS TABLET 20-FT RJ45 FIELD INSTALL KIT

This option requires that the correct bulkhead be installed. Bulkhead [1] is the new required one, and Bulkhead [2] is the previous version. The previous version can be identified by the extra screw holes [3]. 

Danger: At this point, there should be no electrical connection to the machine. Electrical panel must be closed and secured. When main switch is on, there is HIGH VOLTAGE throughout the electrical panel (including the circuit boards and logic circuits) and some components operate at high temperatures. Therefore, exercise extreme caution when working in the panel.

The longest Ethernet cable [1] needs to be run from the electrical cabinet to the pendant. This will require removing the sheet metal to route the cable, following the other cables going to the front pendant.  

To replace the bulkhead, unscrew the back panel of the control pendant and then unplug all bulkhead connectors [1].

Once all the bulkhead connectors are unplugged, unscrew the previous bulkhead [1] and replace it with the one included in the kit.

With the new bulkhead installed, reinstall all the old bulkhead connectors except the top USB connector [1]. Then install the new USB bulkhead. 

Use the included double-sided tape to attach the POE to USB-C adapter [1] to the cabinet. Plug the Ethernet cable that is routed from the electrical cabinet into the adapter. Plug the USB-C end of the adapter into the bulkhead. 

Use the USB-A to USB-A cable [1] that was previously in the machine to connect the SKBIF to the bulkhead. 

Screw in the sheet metal tablet holder.

Note: The tablet is designed to be held in place by the magnetic case. 

Use the included USB-C cable [1] to connect the tablet to the control through the the top USB port.

From the home screen of the Haas Tablet locate the settings app [1] on the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

While in the settings app go to the more connections tab [1] and open the ethernet settings [2].

In ethernet settings under the connection type make sure Static IP is selected.

Select the information icon [1] to open Static IP configuration [2]. Edit the values in Static IP configuration until they match the following.

IP address: 10.72.65.65

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

DNS address: 10.1.1.174

Gateway address: 10.72.65.1

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open the active app screen. Tap and hold on the settings app [1] and slide the app up to close it. Make sure that the app is no longer displayed on the active app screen before returning to the home screen. 

Note: Disconnecting the tablet while the settings app is still open will cause the tablet to lose connection the next time it is plugged in. If this happens, repeat the Static IP Configuration procedure.
