A-AXIS ENCODER KIT - HS3R EC1600/2000-4AX - CHC - AD0675

Introduction

This procedure outlines how to the replace the 50k line optical rotary encoder on the following rotary machines:

  • HS-3/4R
  • EC-1600/2000 4AX

This procedure applies to the following service kits:

  • 93-3475  ENCODER KIT A-AXIS HS3R EC1600/2000-4AX

 You should not do mechanical or electrical machine repairs or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes.

 Only authorized personnel with the proper training and certification should do this repair procedure.

Removal

ENCODER REMOVAL

  • Remove the encoder cover plate [1]. 
  • Loosen the two set screws [2] in the encoder shaft plate [3].
  • Remove the six screw from encoder shaft plate.
  • Lift encoder shaft plate from the platter.

Important: Damage to the encoder will result if screw are not loosened.

  • Remove the three screws on encoder coupling tube.
  • Remove the encoder coupling tube.

  • Remove the remaining three screws.
  • Carefully lift the encoder mount plate
  • Disconnect the encoder cable from the encoder feed back cable.

NOTE: Secure the encoder feed cable, to prevent cable from falling through the Encoder Mount Cup

  • Measure the height of the flex coupler to the face of the encoder mount plate [1] or height of the extension shaft to the face of the encoder mount plate [2].
  • Record the value , will be used during reassembly .

  • Loosen the lower set screw on the flex coupler to remove from encoder shaft.

Installation

Pre-assembly Verification

  • Before assembling the new encoder mounting parts, perform the following checks:
    • Verify the encoder mounting plate inserts into the encoder mounting cup without binding. The contacting surfaces must be burr-free.

Note: mounting cup removed for illustration purposes only.

    • Verify the encoder shaft inserts into the encoder shaft plate to the full depth of the bore without binding

ASSEMBLE ENCODER

  • Install the new encoder onto the bottom of the new encoder mounting plate.

  • Install flex coupling to height recorded.

WARNING: Failure to install encoder shaft to correct height will result in damage to flex coupling and encoder.

  • Verify encoder coupler tube fit over the flex coupler free without binding.

  • Reconnect the encoder cable to the encoder feed back cable
  • Carefully lower the encoder assemble into the encoder mount cup , aligning the three screws at 120° spacing to mount plate. The remaining three threaded holes are for the encoder coupling tube. 

WARNING: Careful not to pinch the cable when seating the encoder mount plate.

  • Install the encoder coupling tube using the  three threaded holes.

  • Install the encoder shaft plate, ensure that the flats on the encoder shaft are lined up with the set screw holes in the shaft plate
  • After seating the encoder shaft plate, tighten the screws securing the encoder shaft plate to the platter. Then install and tighten the set screws.

  • Install the encoder cover plate into the platter bore.

A-AXIS ALIGNMENT AND PARAMETER SETTINGS

  • In Service mode (Pos-Raw Dat screen), go to Parameter 212 (224 for EC-630/1600/2000/3000), enter “0” and press Write/Enter.  
  • Zero the A-axis only by pressing the Zero Ret key, then the A key, then the Zero Singl Axis key.
  • Go to Service mode and type “GRID” followed by a space and then “A”. 
  • Jog the A-axis to line up the T-slots (EC-1600/2000/3000, HS-3R/4R/6R/7R) with the X-axis to a value of .0005/10.00”. 
  • Enter actual value from Pos-Raw Dat screen into Parameter 212 (224 for EC-630/1600/2000/3000).
