Active Ballscrew Compensation - Replacement Kits - AD0713

Introduction

 

This procedure outlines how to replace the different aspects of the linear gage sensor for the Active Ballscrew Compensation.

This procedure applies to the follow service kits:

  1. 93-3886: BSCREW LINEAR GAGE MECH ASSY SVC KIT
  2. 93-3816: SVC KIT LINEAR GAUGE NODE ASSY
  3. 93-32-2005: SVC KIT LINEAR GAUGE HUB

 Note: The Active Ballscrew Compensation linear sensor is not a field installable option at this time.

Linear Sensor Assembly Replacement

Use this section when replacing the Linear Sensor Assembly from service kit 93-3886.

Remove the cover and its hardware [1]. Save these parts as they will be reused after the replacement.

Unplug the linear sensor cable [2] from the node box.

Remove the bolts and washers [3] that are holding the linear sensor assembly in place. Save the hardware as they will need to be reused.

Once the bolts are out, remove the linear gage assembly [4].

To replace the steel ball [1] in the ballscrew center, apply a pea-size drop of tacky grease in the ballscrew center and insert the steel ball ensuring the grease holds it in place.

Take the linear sensor assembly from the service kit and place it where the old one was removed from [1].

Secure the linear sensor assembly by reinstalling the bolts and washers [2], verify the ball and tip of the linear sensor are making contact and torque the bolts to 25 ft-lbs.

Reconnect the linear sensor cable [3] to the node box.

Install the cover [4] back onto the bracket.

CAN Node Box Replacement

Use this section when replacing the CAN Node Box from service kit 93-3816.

Disconnect the sensor cable [3] and hub cable [4] from the node box [2].

Remove the bolts [1] and node box assembly [2] from the casting.

Remove the bolts [5] and sheet metal bracket [6] from the node box.

Important: Keep the hardware and bracket that was removed to use with the new node box.

Install the node box bracket [2] using its hardware [1] onto the new node box.

Attach the new node box assembly [4] with the old hardware [3].

Connect the linear sensor cable [5] and hub cable [6] to the node box [4].

Follow this step for the Node Box location on the X-Axis

The CAN Node Box location will be on the right side of the saddle, the exact location is machine dependant:

  1. VF-6/8
  2. VF-7/9
  3. VF-10/11
  4. VF-12/14

Follow this step for the Node Box location on the Y and Z Axes

The Y-Axis CAN Node Box will be towards the front of the base on the right side of the ballscrew [1].

The Z-Axis CAN Node Box will be towards the bottom of the column on the right side of the ballscrew [2].

Linear Gauge Hub Board Replacement

Use this section when replacing the Linear Gage Hub Board from service kit 93-32-2005.

To replace the Hub Board, disconnect the cables and remove the old board [1].

Install the new board [1] the same as the old and reconnect the cables.

Refer to the Active Ballscrew Compensation - Troubleshooting Guide for the wiring diagram if needed.

Calibration

After any part has been replaced, refer to the Active Ballscrew Compensation - Calibration procedure and calibrate the axis that had the replacment.
