WATCH CHAPTER LESSONS
The Haas certification coursework consists of 12 chapters, with the content presented in video format. Watch each video at your own pace, and rewind as needed. We want to ensure you get the most from your Haas certification.
PASS ONLINE QUIZZES
Each video is followed by a short quiz to ensure you have a full understanding of the concepts presented in the video. You must score 100% on each quiz to gain access to the next video.
IN-PERSON, HANDS-ON FINAL EXAM AT YOUR LOCAL HFO
Once you have completed all of the videos and quizzes, you may schedule an in-person exam at your local HFO. During this hands-on exam, you will be asked to demonstrate some of the concepts presented in the videos. Students who pass the hands-on exam will receive a certificate acknowledging completion of the Haas CNC Certification Program.
Haas Certification Coursework
Chapter 1: Introduction to CNC
Covers the history of machine tools, basic machine construction, and basic cutting tools. Introduces the process of machining – from raw stock to finished part – and explains the roles of the operator, the machine, and the program in the process. Includes a basic explanation of G & M codes, X/Y/Z movement, and spindle rotation and speeds.
Chapter 2: Basic Machine Safety
A full review of the safety features on Haas CNC machines, including E-Stop, door interlocks, Feed Hold, Single Block, and Reset. Discusses personal protection equipment (PPE), the danger of improperly clamped parts, and the importance of general housekeeping for the work area.
Chapter 3: Basic Machine Start Up
Provides a full list of items to check prior to machine Power Up, including coolant level, machine cleanliness prior to operation, tooling, and workholding. Also includes a full list of items to check prior to Powering Down a machine.
Chapter 4: Load and Unload a Part
Discusses workholding and part clamping; blowing off the part and vise prior to clamping; the proper use of part stops; various types of workholding; and using proper clamping force to ensure the workpiece is correctly clamped into the workholding.
Chapter 5: Run a Program
Describes all of the basic elements of a program, and explains the lines of code, including program safe start up, distance to go, single-block mode, and rapid vs. feed motion. Discusses the danger of chip build-up on all working surfaces of the machine.
CHAPTER 6: HAAS CONTROL FUNCTIONS
Reviews the entire keypad and control screen layout. Highlights specific keys as an introduction for the new operator, such as: Cycle Start, Feed hold, Reset, E-Stop, Coolant On/Off, and the Help Screen.
CHAPTER 7: BASIC PRINT READING
Shows the various aspects of a drawing, including the title block, revision block, tolerance location, and general notes location. Explains dimensioning on drawings, call-outs, and section views.
CHAPTER 8: MEASURING TOOLS
Discusses, in detail, various inspection tools and their use. Introduces the use of scales, calipers, and micrometers.
CHAPTER 9: BASIC SHOP MATH
Discusses basic shop math, including addition/subtraction, decimal equivalencies, converting fractions to decimals, and converting metric measurements to inch.
CHAPTER 10: Introduction to Cutting Tools and Workpiece Materials
Overview of the common cutting tools used in a CNC machine, and the common materials you will encounter in a job shop.
CHAPTER 11: BASIC MACHINE MAINTENANCE
Review of the basic maintenance for a CNC machine, including: clearing chips from the machine enclosure, maintaining the coolant tank and coolant system, checking the lubrication system, and caring for and cleaning all filters.
CHAPTER 12: HANDS-ON TEST
Once online coursework is complete, students may schedule an in-person examine at their local HFO, where they will be asked to demonstrate some of the concepts presented in the videos. Students passing the hands-on exam will receive a certificate acknowledging completion of the Haas CNC Certification Program.
