APL Linear Rail - Retrofit Kit - Installation

Drill Template

  • Remove the rear sheet metal panel of the APL to gain access to all wheels
  • Work through one side of the table at a time
  • Remove the wheel assemblies [1]
  • Remove the wheel guides [2]

  • Install the drill template using screws in the existing holes [1]
  • Press E-stop to be able to pull the table [3] by hand to reach the holes the table is covering
  • Center punch each hole [2]
  • Use a center drill to start each hole
  • Use a 1/4" drill to drill each hole
  • Remove the template
  • Blow out any chips and deburr the edges

Install Guides and Trucks

  • Install the new guide rails [1] with the following hardware:
    • Button head cap screws with 10-32 thread
    • #10 flat plated washers
    • 10-32 nuts
    • Note: The table is not shown here to provide a view with all new screw locations shown
  • Leave the screws loose to be able to align the rail parallel with the second rail and ballscrew later

  • Assemble the bracket [1] to the truck [2].  Use the following hardware:
    • Socket head cap screws with M5 thread
    • #10 split washer
    • #10 hard washer
  • Torque the socket head cap screws [3] per the Haas Torque Chart
  • Use the existing socket head cap screws in the table to install the bracket and linear truck assembly to the table
    • Note: Keep these screws loose in the table until all  four linear guide trucks are installed
  • Repeat Section 1 and 2 for the other side of the table
  • Once all four linear trucks are installed torque the socket head cap screws that bolt them to the table

Align the Table

  • The button head screws [2] in the rails should still be loose
  • Jog the AV-axis along its full travel fore and aft to align the rails to the ball screw
  • After approximately 3-4 full lengths of travel torque all of the screws
  • Place a magnetic base and indicator on the AW-axis arm and sweep the table's dowle pins [1] in the AU direction
    • Not to Exceed 0.060"
  • Installation is complete
