OUR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION | MIDWEST

Morris Group HFO’s support over 350 educational programs throughout our 14-state region. These Haas Technical Education Centers (HTECs) are building the future workforce for our manufacturers, creating entrepreneurs and allowing students to learn lifelong skills in cutting edge facilities. We support these programs through increasing awareness and excitement for careers in machining, assisting in strategies for recruiting, connecting manufacturers and educators to strengthen advisory committees, facilitating regional HTEC Educator Conferences and supporting Gene Haas Foundation initiatives for scholarships, grants and named projects.

Haas Automation established the Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) Network more than 20 years ago, to support manufacturing education programs at high schools/technical centers, community & technical colleges and universities, and educate the next generation of CNC machinists. Today, there are more than 2400 HTEC schools throughout the USA.

The HTEC Network is an industry and education led initiative that enables manufacturing technology educators and their schools to acquire the latest CNC machine tools and related CNC ancillary equipment, software, and educational materials. The goals are to provide students with a relevant, high-tech, and hands-on educational experience, and graduate work-ready CNC machinists, programmers, and engineers who fulfill the needs of today’s industrial employers, and are ready to meet the manufacturing challenges of the future.

HTEC Training Centers are dedicated to providing the highest quality training available for Haas CNC Machines and related technologies. The centers leverage the support of manufacturing partners to provide training on the latest technology available.

GENE HAAS FOUNDATION

In 1999, Haas Automation owner Gene Haas founded the Gene Haas Foundation. Growing up with a strong social conscience instilled by his family, Mr. Haas initially formed the foundation to fund the needs in the local community of Southern California, current home to Haas Automation’s 1.1-million-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Over time, the foundation expanded its mission by supporting educational institutions throughout the United States to help fill the skills gap for American manufacturing. A recent report titled “2018 skills gap and future of work-study” forecasts that 2.4 million manufacturing jobs will go unfilled between 2018 and 2028, with a total economic impact of $2.5 trillion to the U.S. economy. His commitment to strengthening U.S. manufacturing-led Mr. Haas to expand his Foundation and its focus on manufacturing education in the form of scholarships for CNC machinist training, and general support for programs nationwide.

The Gene Haas Foundation donates millions of dollars every year to education. In 2019 alone, the Foundation provided more than $10.9 million in grants to education, the majority in the form of scholarship funds.

SCHOOL TESTIMONIALS

ROCK VALLEY COLLEGE

Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois, is working directly with the Winnebago County Sherriff’s department to provide CNC training opportunities for inmates, which includes earning NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) certification. The program is called TechWorks Training Initiative and includes hands-on training on four new Haas CNC Desktop Mills located within the county jail.

“This is about changing paradigms to make this community stronger,” said Christopher Lewis, RVC Vice President of Workforce Development, “and also increasing the workforce talent that we have, which gives us the ability to recruit other businesses, and makes us stronger as a community.”

PLATT TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL

Platt Technical High School’s CTECS Precision Machining Program offers a unique 5th-year program, via a partnership they’ve established with Housatonic Community College. Based in Milford, Connecticut, Platt Tech’s optional 5th-year program is available to graduates of its standard 4-year program. which includes 2000 hours of education in precision manufacturing, with hands-on training conducted on the school’s many Haas CNC machine tools and traditional manual machines.

MERIDIAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Meridian Community College (MCC), in Meridian, Mississippi, recently celebrated the opening of its Gene Haas Advanced Manufacturing Center. The all-new CNC learning lab features 9 Haas CNC machine tools and 14 Haas CNC simulators, and is anticipated to be a catalyst for growth throughout the region. A $250,000 grant was awarded to MCC from the Gene Haas Foundation to help fund the lab’s development.
