3 - HVS - Installation

Introduction

This chapter will walk through the general process needed to install the HAAS Vertical Bandsaw - 1. This includes unpacking, leveling, powering up, and blade installation.

Tools required:

18mm sockets
Machinist's Level

Note: The machine will come with all of its accessories and spare sparts in four cardboard boxes.

Note: The machine weighs 1168 pounds (1800 kilograms).

HVS - Unpacking

Remove the wrap around the machine.

Using an 18mm socket, remove the four mounting bolts that hold the machine to the skid. Two in the front [1] and two in the rear [2].

Use a forklift to safely remove the bandsaw from the skid.

Note: Machine weight is 1168 lbs. This will require a forklift with a capacity of at least 5000 lbs.

The bandsaw will require 4 leveling feet in order to place the machine safely to the ground.

Note: The required feet can be found in one of the four cardboard boxes provided with the machine.

Locate the 4 mounting points to install the feet.

Note: There are two mounting points at the front [1] and two at the rear.

Install the machine's leveling feet while the bandsaw is still lifted from the ground.

Once the feet have been installed, carefully lower the machine to the ground.

HVS - Leveling

Place a level on the machined surface of the table [1] to check if the saw is level from side to side, as shown in the image.

Adjust the leveling feet located at the bottom of the machine to level the bandsaw.

Note: The image shown is a top view of the vertical saw.

Rotate the level 90 degrees, as shown in image [1], so it is oriented front to back on the machined surface of the table.

Check the front-to-back level of the saw.

Adjust the leveling feet at the bottom of the machine to level the bandsaw in this direction.

HVS - Electrical Installation

DANGER: WORKING WITH ELECTRICAL SERVICES REQUIRED FOR A BANDSAW ARE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. ALL POWER TO THE SAW MUST BE TURNED OFF, LOCKOUT-TAGOUT AT THE SOURCE PRIOR TO CONNECTING THE LINE WIRES TO THE SAW. HOWEVER, IF THIS NOT THE CASE OR ARE NOT SURE HOW TO DO THIS, CHECK WITH APPROPIATE PERSONNEL OR OBTAIN THE NECESSARY HELP BEFORE CONTINUING. ALWAYS CHECK THE INCOMING LINES WITH AN AC VOLTAGE DETECTOR TO MAKE SURE POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED.

Open the main breaker door.

Note: The main breaker has to be switched to the off position to be able to open the electrical cabinet door.

In the upper left-hand corner of the electrical cabinet, connect the power pigtail to the terminal shown.

Note: Make sure the ground is connected to the correct terminal [1].

Note: Make sure the pigtail is not connected to the main power supply when making the connections.

Turn on the machine and verify that the machine is phased correctly.

Important: If the blade appears to be running counterclockwise, turn off the saw, disconnect from the main power supply, and swap the following terminals [1].
