Introduction

Your machine installation is easier and faster if the installation site is correctly prepared. Gather this information:

  • Make sure that your floor is correct for the machine. Refer to the “Placement and Preparation” section in this document for more information.
    • If you must pour a new foundation, make sure that you have sufficient time for the concrete to reach 28-day strength.
  • Clear the installation location. Make a clear path to bring the machine to the location.
  • Make sure that you have the correct electrical wiring and air conduit to the machine location.
  • Schedule the installation date and time. Tell your HFO so they can send a technician.
  • If you have questions about this procedure, contact your HFO for more information.

Click below to view the step-by-step installation procedure for your machine.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTALLATION GUIDE (Coming Soon)

Placement and Preparation

☑
Foundation

You must put your machine on a solid and stable concrete foundation.

Requirements:

  • Concrete foundation thickness: ≥ 8" (200 mm)
  • Flatness: ±0.2" over 10' (±5 mm over 3 m)
  • Must support the machine weight
  • Do not use soft materials (rubber, wood, etc.) under the machine feet

Refer to these specifications:

  • The concrete must be poured directly on the grade.
  • The concrete must be 3500 psi (240 bar) at 28-day strength.
  • The concrete aggregate must be 1" (25 mm) mix.
  • The steel reinforcement must be 40 ksi (2700 bar) tensile strength.
  • The excavation must be cut near flat ground. Remove any loose material in the excavation. This prevents settling.
  • Follow all local building codes and regulations.
  • Continuous slab – DO NOT place machines across expansion joints or cracks.

☑ Anchoring

For best performance, the press brake must be securely anchored to the concrete floor. Press brakes have a high center of gravity and can become front heavy, depending on the type of tooling used, and the material being bent. Anchoring the machine is critical to prevent tipping, maintain machine level and accuracy, and prevent frame twisting.

☑ Machine Placement

You can use a forklift, roller dolly, or an overhead crane to move your machine. Be sure to use a lifting device with sufficient capacity.

Refer to this list when you plan your machine placement:

  • Put the machine onto a continuous concrete slab.
  • The leveling feet of the machine must be at least 12" (300 mm) from the edge of the concrete slab.
  • Isolate the machine from vibration from other machines or other sources.
  • Do not put the machine on inappropriate surfaces. This includes asphalt, brick, wood, or dirt.
  • If you plan to put the machine on a floor other than the ground level, consult with a structural expert.

You must have access to the control cabinet for safety and regular operations. Make sure you have a space of 3' (1 m) between the control cabinet and any structures.

Your HFO service technician completes the final leveling procedure.

Lifting Instructions

Read these instructions in their entirety before attempting to lift the machine.

WARNING:
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT PREPARATION AND LIFTING OF THE MACHINE BE PERFORMED BY PROFESSIONAL RIGGERS. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES ONLY.

Refer to the lifting placard on the machine to locate all critical lifting points.

Specialized equipment is necessary to ensure that the machine is secure and level during lifting. When lifting the machine, slowly lift until all chains are taut, then lift the machine, making sure it stays balanced. Remove lifting brackets and hardware, if installed, before machine operation, unless otherwise noted. It is the customer’s responsibility to supply all chains and spreader bars required to properly lift the machine. Contact your local HFO for more information. Retain any supplied lifting brackets and hardware, and store them in a safe place for future use. Use only Haas-supplied lifting hardware, if required.

Refer to the lifting placard on the machine for model-specific lifting information. Attach the lifting bracket, if required, and chains as shown. Make sure that the chains do not contact the sheet metal enclosure or electrical cables. Note the use of spreader bars and lumber. Haas Automation, Inc., does not provide spreader bars or lumber.

Lifting Requirements:

  • Crane or forklift rated for the weight and height of the machine
  • Attention must be paid to the machine’s center of gravity to prevent it from tilting or being damaged.
  • Must only be lifted from the top of the machine.
  • DO NOT USE the following components as lifting points: arm assembly, electrical box, control panel, worktable, left and right positioning blocks, and mechanical protection device.

Lifting Instructions:

  • Spreader bar rated for 22,000 lb (10,000 kg)
  • Forklift
  • Attach hooks to the lifting holes in the casting behind the ram
  • When setting the brake down, ensure the leveling bolts are driven all the way up and there is a plate under each leveling bolt (plates can be found in included toolbox)
  • Ensure there is sufficient clearance for the crane or forklift to lift the machine

Lifting Points:

IMPORTANT: The system has a high center of gravity, with more weight at the front of the machine. During lifting, transportation, and installation, attention must be paid to the position of the center of gravity to prevent the machine from twisting.

  • The lifting points have a 2-inch (50 mm) diameter hole through a 1.5- inch (38 mm) thick lifting lug
  • Recommended shackle sizes should have a minimum working load limit of 15,000 lb (6800 kg) per shackle, and at least a 1.5-inch (38 mm) pin

Electrical Requirements for Haas Press Brakes

Machines use a 3-phase 380V power supply.
  • Brake press requires a grounding wire and no neutral wire.
  • If the supply voltage is excessively high, an additional transformer must be installed.
  • If voltage is unstable (fluctuation exceeds ±5%) a voltage regulator must be installed.

IMPORTANT: Machine does not have a phase detect. Use a multimeter to ensure power is phased correctly.

General

  • The electrical power must meet the applicable safety codes and ordinances.
  • An authorized electrician must make the connection from the main breaker to the machine.
  • Refer to the Machine Layout Drawing for the location of the machine’s electrical input.

Ground

  • The equipment should be grounded by inserting a grounding pin on the equipment side, or by connecting the machine tool to the power supply’s ground wire.
  • The grounding resistance should not exceed 4 ohms.

Wire Size

  • The wire size requirements depend on your wire lengths. Refer to your local electrical codes.

Service Breaker

  • Make sure the circuit breaker that connects to the machine meets with the Haas Specification. Refer to the “Full Load Amps” column in the “Electrical Specification” table above.
  • Use the next larger-size industrial-grade breaker that meets your local codes and regulations.
