Accessory Tooling Block (ATB) - Installation

Introduction

This procedure tells you how to install the Accessory Tooling Block (ATB) option.

For machines not running flood coolant, please use:

20-7277: SPINDLE ACC BLOCK NO/CLNT

For machines running flood coolant, order one of the following kits:

Spindle Front Cap with 6 Holes:

93-1000071: ACCESSORY TOOLING BLOCK (VF-6 through VF-14)
93-1000072: ACCESSORY TOOLING BLOCK (VF-1 through VF-5, UMC)

Note: This procedure can also be used when replacing PN 20-7265D with PN 20-7265E.

Spindle Front Cap with 10 Holes:

93-1000982: ACCESSORY TOOLING BLOCK (VF-6 through VF-14)
93-1000981: ACCESSORY TOOLING BLOCK (VF-1 through VF-5, UMC)

Note: Ensure that the ATB is compatible with your machine and tooling. See images below for reference.

Note: Ensure to select correct ATB kit with the corresponding machine. Customers with VMCs will order ATB 93-1000982 / 93-1000981 if the front cap has 10 holes [1]. Customers with VMCs will order ATB 93-1000071 / 93-1000072 if the front cap has 6 holes [2].

Ensure that the ATB you are ordering is compatible with your tooling.

93-1000071 and 93-1000072 use 20-7265E [1], which has a mounting hole. 93-1000982 and 93-1000981 use 20-10578 [2], which has a mounting hole.

20-7277 [3] has a slot, and not a mounting hole.

VF Installation

Do this step for machines with PCOOL.

Remove the plug [1] for the coolant ring.

Install the ATB [2] with the (2) 10-32 x 1/2" socket-head cap screws [SHCS].

Install the elbow fitting [3] for the coolant ring.

Install the elbow fitting [4] for the ATB.

Connect the hose [5] to the (2) elbow fittings.

Do this step for machines without PCOOL.

Remove the plug [2] for the coolant ring.

Install the ATB [1] with the (2) 10-32 x 1/2" socket-head cap screws [SHCS].

Install the elbow fitting [3] for the coolant ring.

Install the elbow fitting [4] for the ATB.

Connect the hose [5] to the (2) elbow fittings.

Do this step for machines with a 50-Taper Spindle.

Remove the plug [1] for the coolant ring.

Install the ATB [2] with the (2) 10-32 x 1/2" socket-head cap screws [SHCS].

Install the elbow fitting [3] for the coolant ring.

Install the elbow fitting [4] for the ATB.

Connect the hose [5] to the (2) elbow fittings.

UMC Installation

Remove the NOZZLE CLNT [1] and the DRAIN TUBE [2] from the spindle mount casting.

Install the ATB [3] with the (2) 10-32 x 1/2" socket-head cap screws [SHCS].

Install the elbow fitting [4] for the ATB.

Install the fitting [1] to the spindle mount casting.

Connect the hose [2] to the fittings.

GM Installation

Remove the NOZZLE CLNT [1] and the DRAIN TUBE [2] from the spindle mount casting.

Install the ATB [3] with the (2) 10-32 x 1/2" socket-head cap screws [SHCS].

Install the elbow fitting [4] for the ATB.

Install the fitting [1] to the spindle mount casting.

Connect the hose [2] to the fittings.

Install the ATB [1] with the (2) 10-32 x 1/2" socket-head cap screws [SHCS].

Install the plug fitting [2] into the ATB.

If the cap on spindle head is in a position for the tool changer arm to hit the ATB, unbolt the cap and rotate it one bolt hole and re-install.

Note: If there are shims under the spindle cap, be sure not to pinch them.
