Flying S Inc | Haas Customer Success Story
Comprised of a team of engineers, machinists and various technicians, Flying S fabricates anything from carbon fiber aircraft wings to intricate molds and machined parts. Located in the rural Midwest, they utilize a wide array of Haas CNC machines capable of handling small and large parts in a variety of materials, including high-temp alloys, rapid prototype materials, and composites.
When working within the aerospace industry, there’s no room for error, it has to be right; so Flying S not only employs quality people, but also uses only quality equipment. They have about 25 Haas CNC machines, which they employ for a variety of uses. This includes 6 UMCs, with full 4th- and 5th-axis capability, including simultaneous 5-axis motion; several GR series gantry routers, which offer very large part envelopes and high rpm, while still maintaining high accuracy and precision; VMCs w/APCs, DTs, an ST-30SSY with bar feed for mill/turning, a handful of small and medium verticals, and a VF-10. The machining consists mostly of aluminum cutting for aerospace flight hardware, and composite mold tooling. Three of the vertical machines are dedicated exclusively to composite trimming full shifts every day, with dust collection and AirTurbine spindle attachments.
With their unwavering commitment to exceed expectations, Flying S continues to thrive in fabricating composite UAV airframe structures.
