2.1 Installation Guide

Introduction

This procedure will show you how to unpack and install the HSF-450.

Air requirements:

  • The customer must connect the HSF-450 to an air source. The barb for the air intake accepts a tube with an ID of 1/4" and OD of 3/8".
  • Adjust the pressure regulator between 75 to 87 PSI (0.5 to 0.6MPa).

Electrical requirements:

  • The HSF-450 has a 3-phase 4-prong, 5-wire twisting plug.
  • The HSF-450 requires 4-wire WYE Configuration (3 phase + Neutral + Protective Earth). The HSF-450 is not compatible with Delta power if the installation location has Delta configured power, an isolation transformer is required.
  • More information can be found in 1.2 Specifications.

Coolant specifications:

  • Use any rust inhibiting machine coolant.
  • Fill the tank to about 70% full. This will prevent coolant from splashing outside the tank when coolant drains from the cylinder.

Unpacking the machine

Required materials:

  • Forklift
  • Electric drill
  • Phillips head bit for electric drill
  • 5/16 hex socket for electric drill
  • Pallet jack
  • 3/4 deep socket wrench

1

Place the crate in an open area with space in front of the crate and behind it. The area in front of the crate will need to fit a forklift.

2

Remove the wood screws holding the door in place. The screws will have either a 5/16" hex head [1] or a Phillips head.

Undo the wire holding close the six latches [2] and release the latches. There is one latch in each corner of the door and one in the center, top, and bottom.

3

There are several wood blocks [3] holding the HSF-450 in place. These are held in place by six bolts with 3/4" nuts [2]. Undo these nuts and remove the blocks.

Lift the crate with a forklift to remove the six bolts [4].

Once the bolts and wood blocks have been removed, release the strap [1] holding the HSF-450 down.

4

Place the forklift's forks [1] close together and under the unit. Place a piece of cardboard on top of the unit to protect it if it hits the top of the crate.

Lift the machine a few inches.

Place a pallet jack [2] behind the crate and lift it, so it no longer rests on the floor.

Use the pallet jack to pull the crate away from the HSF-450.

5

Lower the HSF-450 and remove the packaging. Unlock the wheels and move the HSF-450 to its location.

Installation and Set Up

1

Once the HSF-450 has been placed, plug it into power and connect it to an air source.

Warning: The HSF-450 will produce smoke and steam while heating tools, so it should be placed in a well-ventilated area.

Plug the 3-phase, 4-prong, 5-wire twisting plug. Electrical requirements are in the table below.

The Air pressure must be between 75 and 87 PSI (0.5 to 0.6 MPA). The barb for the air intake accepts a tube with an ID of 1/4" and OD of 3/8".

An air hose can be attached to the T joint [2].

2

The HSF-450 does not ship with any coolant. Fill the coolant tank with rust inhibiting machine coolant.

Do not fill the tank all the way to the top. If the coolant level is too high, coolant will splash out of the tank when drained from the cylinder. It is recommended only to fill the tank to about 70% full. This is 8.5 gallons (32 liters).

The tank can be filled by opening the cabinet door on the left side, pouring coolant into the tank, or pouring coolant into the tool holder cylinder.

Access to the coolant tank is gained by pressing the button [1] on the latch [2] to release it and turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise. The tank has an open top [3] and can be directly filled.

To fill from the tool holder cylinder, remove the tool holder sleeve and pour coolant into the cylinder. The bottom of the hole [4] empties into the tank. It is possible to overfill the tank from this hole, and the coolant will spill over into the cabinet. Open the cabinet and check the tank to prevent overfilling.

3

To use the heat shrink machine, a tool sleeve [1] must be placed in the tool holder hole, and a tool heating sleeve [2] must be placed on the heating head.

The tool sleeve depends on the size of the tool holder. There is one for 30, 40, and 50 taper tool holders, as well as one for HSK63A tool holders. The tool sleeve goes on the top of the cylinder [3].

The tool heating sleeve must be placed on top of the heating head [4]. The heating sleeve and the heating head have four tabs [5] to help hold the tool heating sleeve in place.

4

DANGER: WORKING WITH ELECTRICAL SERVICES REQUIRED FOR A HEAT SHRINK MACHINES IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. ALL POWER TO HEAT SHRINK MACHINES MUST BE TURNED OFF LOCKOUT-TAGOUT AT THE SOURCE PRIOR TO CONNECTING THE LINE WIRES TO HEAT SHRINK MACHINES. HOWEVER, IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE OR YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO DO THIS, CHECK WITH THE APPROPRIATE PERSONNEL OR OBTAIN THE NECESSARY HELP BEFORE CONTINUING. ALWAYS USE AN AC VOLTAGE DETECTOR TO CHECK THE INCOMING LINES AND ENSURE THE POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED.

The HSF-450 does not come with a plug installed. We suggest getting a NEMA L21-20P plug or equivalent.

Feed the wire end of the plug into the electrical cabinet. The plug should have five wires:

  • One neutral wire [1]
  • One ground wire [2]
  •  Three 230V wires [3]

Connect the neutral and three 230V wires to the top of the contactor and the ground wire to the sheet metal.
