Haas Automatic Parts Loader (APL) - Fence Installation

Introduction

This procedure tells you how to install the APL Fence and the fence interlock.

Note: The REMOTE JOG HANDLE - XL (PN 93-1000610) is required for VMC and lathe APLs with a fence.

This procedure applies to the following kits:

Installation Guide

Follow the directions below to assemble the fence.

APL - Fence Installation

Once the fence is assembled, attach the Fence Safety decal plates using the screws, nuts, and mounting plates as shown.

The Fence Safety decal location is to the left of the interlock, 4 inches from the right of the fence [1] and 34 inches from the top of the door [2].

Insert the bumper [1] into the cutout on the fence bumper bracket [2] using pliers for help as needed.

Install the fence bumper bracket [2] on top of the door stop bracket [3].

Fence Installation to Mill APL

Assemble the fence around the machine as shown. Make sure the door [1] opens and closes correctly.

Fence Installation to Lathe APL

Assemble the fence around the machine as shown. Make sure the door [1] opens and closes correctly.

For ST-10

Install the fence panel sheet metal [1] to the machine sheet metal and secure the APL fence to the fence panel sheet metal.

For ST-20/25

Install the fence panel sheet metal [1] to the machine sheet metal and secure the APL fence to the fence panel sheet metal.

Fence Installation to UMC APL

Refer to this step for APL's built before January 2024

Assemble the fence around the machine as shown. Make sure the door [1] opens and closes correctly.

The door opening [2] is about 70 inches (1778mm) wide and the width of the back of the fence [3] is about 114.125 inches (2899mm).

Assemble the fence around the machine as shown. Make sure the door [1] opens and closes correctly.

The door opening [2] is about 48 inches (1219mm) wide and the width of the back of the fence [3] is about 76.0625 inches (1932mm).

Install the fence panel sheet metal [1] to the machine sheet metal and secure the APL fence [2] to the fence panel sheet metal.

Install the fence panel sheet metal [1] to the machine sheet metal and secure the APL fence [2] to the fence panel sheet metal.

Interlock Installation

Fortress Interlock 1

Mount the interlock mount to the fence post using self tapping screws.

Mount the interlock to the mount and install the interlock door mount to the fence door.

If the fence includes a handle, mount the handle to the door.

Fortress Interlock 2

Follow the insctructions below for the fortress interlock 2.

Skorpion Interlock

Mount the interlock handle bracket, interlock key, and handle to the door.

Mount the interlock to the interlock bracket

Mount the interlock and interlock bracket to the fence post bracket.

Route the interlock wire to the I/O Board and connect it to P1 and P9.

Note: This image shows the Fortress Interlock 1, but the I/O board wiring will be the same for all interlock versions.

For VFs, route the interlock wire to the control box as shown.

For lathes, route the interlock wire to the control box as shown.

For UMC, route the interlock wire under the the fence and along the skirt of the machine to the control box.

Note: Use cable clamp magnets to run the wire along the skirt of the machine.

Interlock Verification

With the key inserted in the interlock, the two red LED lights in the front of the interlock should be off [1].

On the Haas pendant, there should not be any E-stop or light curtain/fence alarms or icon triggered.

Remove the key from the interlock. The two red LED lights should turn on [2] and a warning should appear on the Haas pendant for light curtain/fence.

Remote Jog Handle Box - Installation

For Mills

Install the Remote Jog Handle Box [1] as shown using the provided mounting magnets.

Then route the cable from the box to the pendant as shown.

For Lathes

Install the Remotoe Jog Handle Box [1] to the APL fence using the provided hardware.

Route the cable to the pendant as shown .

Wiring Diagram

Connect the remote jog handle wire to P9 on the SKBIF in the pendant.

Remove the jumpers [1] on the SKBIF from the horizontal position and replace them in the vertical position.

WARNING: By not putting the jumpers in the vertical position, E-STOP functionality on the RJH-XL is disabled and the machine is considered unsafe. Jumpers MUST be inserted vertically.

Remote E-Stop Verification

Press the Pendant and RJH-XL E-STOP buttons and make sure the machine generates 107 EMERGENCY STOP alarm. If the E-STOP button does not generate a 107 EMERGENCY STOP alarm verify the wiring. Load the latest configuration files to enable the RJH-XL.

Warning: By not putting the jumpers in the vertical position, E-STOP functionality on the RJH-XL is disabled and the machine is considered unsafe. Jumpers MUST be inserted vertically.
