Spindle Encoder Cable - Replacement - NGC

Introduction

This procedure shows you how to replace the spindle encoder cable on a NGC machine. This updated cable has an overheat connection to plug into the motor overheat sensor.

This procedure applies to the following service kits:

Replacement

Power off the machine.

Remove the spindle head cover and disconnect the spindle encoder cable from the non-contact encoder read head.

Disconnect the encoder cable [1] from P22 [Channel 6] on the NGC Main PCB.

Remove the old spindle encoder cable.

Install the new spindle encoder cable using the same cable routing as the previous cable.

Connect the spindle encoder connector [1] to the Non-Contact encoder.

Overheat Sensor Connection

If the machine did not have a spindle motor overheat cable connection perform the following Step:

Remove the spindle motor juction box cover [1].

Locate the spindle motor overheat sensor cable inside the junction box [2].

Route the overheat sensor cable [2] through the junction box and connect it to the spindle motor terminal bracket [3]. The connector on the bracket is label "Spindle Motor Overheat".

Install the spindle motor junction cover [1].

Connect the spindle motor overheat cable [4] to the terminal bracket.

Install the spindle head cover.

Connect the encoder cable [1] to P22 [Channel 6] on the NGC Main PCB.

Install the NGC Main PCB cover and Power On the machine.

Activate the Overheat Sensor

A patch is needed to activate the spindle motor overheat sensor.

If the machine did not have a spindle motor overheat cable connection perform the following Step:

Login to the HBC and download the configuration patch file and load to the control.

Verification

Run the spindle warm up program. Verify no alarms get generated.
