Introduction

This troubleshooting guide will show you how to troubleshoot the Auto Window.

NOTE: For Auto Window installation, refer to DT/DM/UMC-350 - Auto Window - Installation - AD0652 for more information.

Symptom Table

Updated

The following table lists the corrective actions for common symptoms and alarms in the Auto Window system.

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION

The auto window doesn't open or close.

OR

Alarm 9889 SLIDER DOOR OPEN TIMEOUT

The Auto Window parameters have incorrect values.

Refer to the Auto Window Parameters section below for the correct value of the parameters relevant to the auto window. If any parameter values are incorrect reload the configuration files and try activating the auto window again.

The auto window sensor is not triggering the window to open/close due to misalignment.   Adjust both upper and lower clamp sensors. For more information, see Clamp Sensor Adjustment section below.

If the sensors are aligned correctly and there is still a problem, check the alignment of the cylinder.
One of the air cylinder brackets could be oriented wrong. Refer to the Air Cylinder Brackets section below for what orientation the brackets should be.
Reed sensor movement/cylinder movement on window open Ensure all sensors are clamped tight.
Increase the air cushion at the top of the cylinder by turning the set screw completely clockwise (max) and then turning it counter-clockwise 1.25 turns (this is the factory default).
Air cylinder is binding. The air cylinder needs to be realigned, refer to the Air Cylinder Brackets and Alignment section below.
Air Cylinder is defect and missing air cushions Please refer to Auto Window Air Cylinder Defect (Originally released on 09/30/2025) - SA0069
Alarm 391  Feature Disabled  is generated commanding M180 & M181. The single switch auto window that comes from the HRP or APL cannot be commanded independently.

Feature must be commanded by the robot or APL. The customer needs to purchase an auto window install kit to get stand-alone functionality. Refer to AD documents that apply to your machine model.

AD0652 - DC/DT/DM/CM/MM/SMM/UMC-350 - Auto Window - Installation

AD0663 - UMC Auto Window - Installation

AD0669 - VMC - Auto Window - Installation

The machine has an automation option enabled on the control or the machine does not have a safety signal and parameters. See the auto window install procedures to make sure the machine meets all the requirements to use the auto window M Codes.
Alarm 548 DOOR M CODES NOT ALLOWED when commanding M180 or M181. The machine does not have a cell safe signal or the light curtain is not enabled. The Mill 180/181 codes only work while the machine receives a cell-safe signal from a robot or if it has a light curtain installed. For more information refer to Robot Integration Aid - NGC reference document.
The machine does not have the correct parameters to use the M Codes. Order the 93-1000996 - Side automation Safety Parameter Kit if the parameters are not on the machine.

Auto Window Parameters

The following parameters are configuration parameters and an error report will need to be taken and extracted to view their values in the ParameterList.xml file. After extracting an error report verify the values match the ones below.

Refer to the How to Read an Error Report procedure for help with upacking an error report.

Parameter Value
2200 AUTO WINDOW OPEN TIMEOUT 6 seconds
2201 AUTO WINDOW DOOR OPEN SETTLE 0.3 seconds
2202 AUTO WINDOW DOOR CLOSE TIMEOUT 6 seconds
2203 AUTO WINDOW CLOSE DELAY 2 seconds
2431 PALLET LOAD INNER DOOR OPEN TIMEOUT 6 seconds
2432 PALLET LOAD INNER DOOR OPEN SETTLE 0.34 seconds
2433 PALLET LOAD INNER DOOR CLOSE TIMEOUT 6 seconds
2434 PALLET LOAD INNER DOOR CLOSE SETTLE 2.1 seconds

Clamp Sensor Alignment

1

Remove cylinder enclosure cover to access the bottom sensor.

Push [EMERGENCY STOP].

Do these steps to adjust the sensor indicating when the Auto Window is closed. Monitor the DIAGNOSTICS screen at the same time:

  1. Loosen the sensor clamp. Move the sensor and clamp up until AUTO_WINDOW_DOOR_FULLY_CLOSED changes to 0.
  2. Slowly move the sensor and clamp up. Find the location where the value is as near as possible to 1, but the value is 0. Another way to find the correct position for the clamp sensor is to slowly move the sensor until just before the red LED on the sensor comes on.
  3. Put a mark on the cylinder to locate the sensor's height at this position.
  4. Repeat Step 1. Repeat Step 2, but move the clamp down. Repeat Step 3.
  5. Move the sensor and clamp to the middle point between the two marks. Tighten the clamp.

Reinstall cylinder enclosure cover.

2

Do these steps to adjust the sensor indicating when the Auto Window is opened.. Monitor the DIAGNOSTICS screen at the same time:

  1. Loosen the sensor clamp. Move the sensor and clamp up until AUTO_WINDOW_DOOR_FULLY_OPENED changes to 0.
  2. Slowly move the sensor and clamp up. Find the location where the value is as near as possible to 1, but the value is 0. Another way to find the correct position for the clamp sensor is to slowly move the sensor until just before the red LED on the sensor turns on.
  3. Put a mark on the cylinder to locate the sensor's height at this position.
  4. Repeat Step 1. Repeat Step 2, but move the clamp down. Repeat Step 3.
  5. Move the sensor and clamp to the middle point between the two marks. Tighten the clamp.

Air Cylinder Brackets and Alignment

Verify the air cylinder brackets [1] are both orientated in the right direction.

Align cylinder to window bracket by loosening the two sheet metal brackets [1] holding the cylinder to the machine and loosening the large nut [2] in between the bottom bracket and the cylinder. Extend cylinder and guide the rod into window bracket hole. Re-tighten the nut first [2] and then the window brackets [1] until cylinder is locked down.

Electrical Schematic

NOTE: There are two wiring configurations for the Auto Window. All DM, DT, VF, and UMC-350 machine's auto window output cable connects into P38 whereas all UMC-500, 100, 1250, and 1500 machine's auto window output cable connects into P35.
