1. Zero the indicator at the bottom.
2. Manually turn the spindle 180 degrees to measure at the top.
3. Look at the indicator to see the direction and the amount of the error.
Note: It is rare that the tailstock requires a vertical adjustment. Check your measurements a second time and make sure your indicator and alignment tool setup are stable.
4. Change the shim size equally on both sides to raise or lower the tailstock centerline. Tighten to approximately half of the specified torque the (4) screws for the tailstock casting.
