This procedure tells you how to recover the software  (Mill M16.xx, Lathe L09.xx series software) on a Cold Fire 2 - Dual Boot Simulator - CHC. 

Important: This procedure will only work on 15" LCD display simulators that are equipped with a Cold Fire 2 PCB.  To determine if you have a simulator with a Cold Fire 2 PCB:

• Press and hold [PRGRM CONVRS] while you press POWER ON.  
• If the BIOS letters are GREEN then you have a Cold Fire 2 PCB simulator. If the BIOS letters are RED, do  Maincon - Dual Boot Simulator - Software Recovery - CHC procedure.

Use this procedure for the following scenarios:

• The simulator software is corrupted.
• The simulator hangs during boot up.
• You replaced the batteries on the Cold Fire 2 PCB.
• Upgrade the simulator to the latest CHC software release.
• You replaced the Cold Fire 2 PCB on the simulator.

Tools Required

• USB Memory Device
• Cold Fire 2 Dual Boot Simulator Software files.  CLICK HERE to download the files.
  Note: These files contain only the English version of the software.

Extract the downloaded .zip files. 

Copy the files to the root folder of your USB memory stick [1].

Open the Boot folder and make sure the M1611AE.bin and L0911AE.bin [2] software files are inside. 

Important: Make sure the file directory on the USB looks like in the illustration.

Insert the USB device to the simulator.

Push and hold the [PRGRM CONVRS] button while pressing the POWER on button.

This puts the simulator in MONITOR mode.

Do these steps to clear the Flash memory:

• Type FC and push [WRITE/ENTER] [1].
• Wait until FLASH CLEAR COMPLETE!!  appears [2].

Do these steps to clear the BBU (battery back-up) memory:

• Type M6000000 6FFFFFF and push [WRITE/ENTER] [3].
• After MEMORY TEST PASSED, PRESS RESET TO STOP appears (3) times, push RESET [4].

Do these steps to load the simulator software file:

• Insert the USB memory stick into the simulator.
• Type NGLDR302.BIN and push [WRITE/ENTER] [5].
• Type UF and push [WRITE/ENTER].
  For a simulator with HD/ENET option type: FF and push [WRITE/ENTER].

After LOAD COMPLETE!! [6] appears, turn OFF the POWER.

Make sure the USB Boot device is connected to the simulator.

Press the [POWER ON].

As the Boot Load Screen starts.

Press the [LEFT]  arrow to select MILL.

The simulator will begin searching for the software in the USB Boot folder. 

 Note: If the simulator does not find any software it will display an error "Start Failed..".  Check the USB directory Boot folder to confirm the files are in the folder and Cycle the power.

Once it finds the software it will begin load it to memory. 

 Note:  The first initial boot, the simulator functions may become unstable before you select a machine model. 

Do these steps to select the simulator mill model:

• In the alarms page type in: DEBUG 
• Press [WRITE/ENTER].
    Note: When you are in DEBUG mode a green line shows around the display boxes [1].
• Type the desired mill model number (VF2, VF3, VF4, etc.) [2].
• Push [WRITE/ENTER].
• The simulator restarts. 
• Press the [LEFT] arrow to select MILL. The software will begin to load into memory.

• Set Setting 26 (SERIAL NUMBER) to the correct serial number.
  Note: The simulator serial number is usually engraved or stamped on the back electrical plate.
  
• Some simulators shipped with a decal that contained the Unlock code and option codes.  This decal is usually located on the back of the simulator.
   Note: Since the Mill and Lathe use the same serial number the unlock and option codes are the same.
• Enter the unlock code on setting 26. 
  Note: If the unlock code is not found contact your local Haas Factory Outlet to get the codes for the simulator.
• Reset all the alarms and zero return all the axis.

Cycle POWER.

Press [RIGHT] arrow to select Lathe

The simulator will now load the Lathe software into memory.

Note: Simulator functions may become unstable before you select a machine model. Clear the alarms and continue.

Do these steps to load the lathe simulator software:

• In the alarms page type in: DEBUG 
• Press [WRITE/ENTER].
    Note: When in Debug mode a green line shows around the display boxes [1].
• Type the desired lathe model number (ST10, ST20, ST30, etc.) [2].
• Push [WRITE/ENTER].
• The simulator restarts. Press the [RIGHT] arrow to select LATHE.

• Set Setting 26 (SERIAL NUMBER) to the correct serial number.
   Note: The simulator serial number is usually engraved or stamped on the back electrical plate.
  
• Some simulators shipped with a decal that contained the Unlock code and option codes.  This decal is usually located on the back of the simulator.
   Note: Since the Mill and Lathe use the same serial number the unlock and option codes are the same.
• Enter the unlock code on setting 26. 
   Note: If the unlock code is not found contact your local Haas Factory Outlet to get the codes for the simulator.
• Reset all the alarms and zero return all the axis.

Note: A USB device with the BOOT folder is required every time the simulator is turned on.  Once the software fully boots the USB device can be removed and another USB device can be inserted.
