EC - 400 - Pallet Pool Ready - Installation

Introduction

The following procedure will show you how to install the Pallet Pool Ready on an EC-400 Horizontal Machining Center.

Requirements:

  • Only compatible with EC-400's built after 07/2018. 
  • The Next Generation software on the machine must be version 100.19.000.1110 or higher.

 Important: Pallets on the EC-400 will not be compatible with the Pallet Pool for machines built between 07/2018 and 9/25/19. Two additional pallets will need to be ordered separately if the 7 pallets want to be used. Machines with inch pallets will order 93-1000504 and machines with metric pallets will order 93-1000503.  
 NOTE: Kits only include one pallet.

Note: Pallet Pool is not included with the Pallet Pool Ready Kit. It must be ordered seperately. Refer to the Pallet Pool Ready Pre-Installation section.

Important: To ensure that the machine does not become mis-aligned, it is recommended that the machine is anchored. Refer to the following link: Anchoring Instructions.

Installation

Note: Skip step 1 if the machine came with pins already installed on both pallets.

Dowel pins [1] that are provided in the kit will be added to each side of the 4th axis and APC pallet.

Turn machine ON.

When the machine is powered up, release the E-Stop and home all axes.

Clear any alarms before rotating.

Rotate 4th axis [2] so that the arrow [3] on the pallet [4] is facing towards the spindle to install the pin using a rubber mallet.
 Note: Press E-Stop after pallet has been positioned in order to install each pin [1].

Rotate 4th axis [2] 180 degrees so that the arrow [4] is now facing the H-frame to install the pin using a rubber mallet.

Do an APC pallet change and repeat the process again to install pins to the pallet.

Zero return the B-Axis before depressurizing the HPU

Press [DIAGNOSTIC] then navigate to the PARAMETERS tab then navigate to the FACTORY tab.

Set parameter 40.011 HPU 1 TYPE [1] to ON DEMAND [2]. 

 NOTE: Parameter 40.011 HPU 1 TYPE will need to be set to ON DEMAND in order for the depressurize page to work. If it is set to ALWAYS ON or DISABLED the HPU will not depressurize.

Depressurize the HPU using the HPU DEPRESSURE page.

Press [DIAGNOSTIC] then navigate to the MAINTENANCE tab [1] then navigate to the HPU DEPRESSURE tab [2]. Press [F3] to depressurize the HPU [3] and the HPU should no longer have pressure in the lines. The text on the screen will display a status that the HPU is safe to use [4]

 NOTE: Parameter 40.011 HPU 1 TYPE will need to be set to ON DEMAND in order for the depressurize page to work. If it is set to ALWAYS ON or DISABLED the HPU will not depressurize.

Release the brake, press E-stop and place lock-out on the machine.

Remove ENCL PANL LEFT SERVICE EC-400 [1].

 NOTE: For manifold brackets [2] with no access holes, remove the bracket [2] from the enclosure panel [1] and then remove the bracket [2]  from the HYD MANIFOLD [3] to install the HYD MANIFOLD EXTENSION [4] .

 NOTE: Place a bag or towel beneath the HPU MANIFOLD [3] to catch the excess oil dripping from the manifold ports.

Remove plugs [1] from the HYD MANIFOLD [2].

Lube (2) O-rings [3] and place them on the manifold extension ports. One on Bypass and the other at the Press.
 NOTE: Not installing the O-rings will cause leakage.

Use (4) Bolts and (4) washers to attach HYD MANIFOLD EXTENSION to the HYD MANIFOLD [2].

Connect CBL PP HPU PLT LOWER [5] and LIFT SOLS [6] to the SOLENOID VALVE [7].

Release the E-Stop and clear any alarms.

Jog Z axis so that the 4th axis is accessible.

Jog the 4th axis so that you can access and remove the plug [1] on the pallet receiver to depressurize the brake line.

NOTE: Receiver was hidden in the image to show the 4th axis platter bleed hole.

Jog 4th axis until the receiver plug hole aligns with the 4th axis platter bleed plug [1].

Loosen the bleed plug about 4 quarter turns but do not fully remove the plug.

Allow the air to bleed from the system by cycling the brake toggling between Z axis and 4th axis multiple times until there is no sound or visible bubbles.

Tighten the bleed plug to the 4th axis platter and then tighten the plug to the pallet receiver.

Repressure the HPU using the HPU DEPRESSURE page.

Press [DIAGNOSTIC] then navigate to the MAINTENANCE tab [1] then navigate to the HPU DEPRESSURE tab [2]. Press [F4] to restart the HPU [3].

A prompt will show up that the pump could start any time.

Press YES [Y] and the pump will restart.

The HPU pressure gauge will rise to 600 PSI [1] and the page will display cautionary text that the pump is enabled [2].

NOTE: This image uses a simulator page for reference, the gauge SHOULD NOT read 0 PSI after restarting the pump. 

Verify no leaks are present after restarting the pump.

Install ENCL PANL LEFT SERVICE EC-400 [1].

Smart Servo Amplifier Installation

Push [POWER OFF].

Set the main circuit breaker to the [OFF] position.

Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag.

 Danger: If the voltage indicator light is on, do not touch the electrical components. The high voltage in the electrical cabinet can kill you. Wait for the voltage indicator LED to go off fully.

Install the ferrite filters to the Command Cables [1,2].

Connect the Command Cable [1] to P15 and Command Cable [2] to P16 to the NGC Main Control PCB.

 Note: Remove black [1] DC BUS cable from -H.V. [1] and remove white [2] DC BUS cable from +H.V. [2] from the last amp. These will be connected in the same way on the PS amplifier once installed.

Install the smart servo amplifier labeled PR [1].

Connect the other end of the current command cable that is connected to P15 to the smart servo amplifier labeled PR [2].

Connect the high-voltage jumpers [3] to the terminals on the adjacent servo amplifier.

Repeat for PS smart servo amplifier. 

Connect the DC BUS Cables back to the PS amplifier as illustrated in step 3.

Connect 33-1580 CBL PP HPU PLT LOWER & LIFT SOLS to P38 on the I/O PCB.

Machine Operation

Verify that all machine functions are operational:

  • Test the pallet changer
  • Check that there are no alarms when running the machine
