Low to High Voltage - Conversion Kit - Installation

Introduction

This procedure outlines how to convert a low voltage machine to a high voltage machine.

This procedure applies to the following kits:

93-3573: LOW TO HIGH VOLTAGE CONVERSION 40HP/60HP PEAK LATHE - Lathe Machines with a 40 HP HFD-4 Vector Drive
- Machines Built 4/13/2021 and later

93-3710: LOW TO HIGH VOLTAGE CONVERSION 10HP/20HP PEAK ISO - Machines with a 20 HP HFD-2 Vector Drive
- Machines Built 4/30/2021 and later

93-3711: LOW TO HIGH VOLTAGE CONVERSION 20HP/40HP PEAK ISO - Machines with a 40 HP HFD-4 Vector Drive

Electrical Safety

DANGER: Working with the electrical services required for CNC machines is extremely hazardous and can result in serious injury or death.

Before connecting line wires to the CNC:

Turn off all power to the machine at the source.
Perform a Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedure to ensure the power remains off during service.
Verify that power has been disconnected by using an AC voltage detector on all incoming lines.

If you are uncertain about how to safely disconnect power or perform LOTO procedures:

Do not proceed.
Contact qualified personnel or obtain appropriate assistance before continuing.

Failure to follow these precautions may result in electrical shock, equipment damage, or fatal injury.

Danger: Before beginning any work inside the control cabinet, verify that the High Voltage indicator light on the 320V Power Supply / Vector Drive has been off for a minimum of five (5) minutes. This waiting period ensures that residual voltage has dissipated and reduces the risk of electric shock.

Certain service procedures involve high-risk electrical components and may pose serious injury or fatality hazards. Technicians must not attempt any procedure unless they have a complete understanding of the steps involved and the associated risks.

If there is any uncertainty regarding a procedure, contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) to arrange for a qualified service technician.

Danger: WORKING WITH ELECTRICAL SERVICES REQUIRED FOR A CNC ARE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. ALL POWER TO CNC MUST BE TURNED OFF LOCKOUT-TAGOUT AT THE SOURCE PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE SURGE PROTECTOR. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO DO THIS, CHECK WITH APPROPIATE PERSONNEL OR OBTAIN THE NECESSARY HELP BEFORE CONTINUING. ALWAYS CHECK THE INCOMING LINES WITH AN AC VOLTAGE DETECTOR TO MAKE SURE POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED.

Danger: At this point, there should be no electrical connection to the machine. The Electrical Panel must be closed and secured. When main switch is on, there is HIGH VOLTAGE throughout the electrical panel (including the circuit boards and logic circuits) and some components operate at high temperatures. Therefore, exercise extreme caution when working in the panel.

T5 Transformer - Replacement

Remove the old T5 transformer [1] and replace with the new one.

Measure the incoming voltage from the top of the breaker and place the jumper [2] to the correct location on the new T5 transformer.

Note: The incoming voltage determines the location of the jumper on the T5 transformer.

Main Circuit Breaker - Replacement

Follow the Main Circuit Breaker - Replacement procedure to replace the main circuit breaker.

Main Transformer - Replacement

Follow the Main Transformer - Replacement procedure to replace the main transformer.

Note: If the transformer comes with its own hardware, you must use it. Do not reuse hardware.

PSUP Jumper - Removal

Remove the jumper [1] from JP1 on the PSUP.

ID Plate - Replacement

Replace the ID plate on the control cabinet door with the new one that was received in the kit.

Apply Patch

Download and apply the patch from HBC.
