The following service video shows how to install the Torsion Bar on a Haas Bar feeder.

  NOTE:  This  service video is for reference only and does not replace the written procedure. 

This Haas Bar Feeder - Torsion Bar Upgrade Kit is intended to keep the left and right Push Rod Arms in sync with each other to prevent jamming and bending of the Push Rod during operation.

This document and service kit applies to Haas Bar Feeders built 02/09/2015 and later:

• 93-3384B - BARFEEDER TORSION BAR SERVICE KIT

Note: If the Torsion Bar assembly is factory installed or 93-3384 or 93-3384A - BARFEEDER TORSION BAR SERVICE KIT is installed. Upgrade to the 93-3384B - BARFEEDER TORSION BAR SERVICE KIT assembly by installing the following components:

• 20-10966 BULKHEAD BUSHING NON-DRIVE END BARFEEDER
• 20-9598A TORSION BAR ARM BARFEED

Note : 93-3384B has a tighter tolerance torsion bar and bulkhead bushing that reduce overall binding in the system.

The tight tolerance bushing  is installed on the left/drive side and can be identified by a step on the front face [1] while the bushing on the right/non-drive side has a flat face [2].

Remove the rear sheet metal panel[1] to access the Push Rod Arms.

Perform the following steps to set the Push Rod Arm in the raised position and remove the push rod:

Press the [RECOVERY] button to access the bar feeder recovery mode and press [F1] to raise the Push Rod Arms.

Press [EMERGENCY STOP] on the lathe. Open the set-up lid.

At the lathe end of the push rod, slide the bushing retainer[1] away from the push rod.

At the other end of the push rod, pull the retention blade[2] off of the holder block and remove the push rod and bushing.

Perform the following steps on both the left and right Push Rod Arms.

Warning: The Push Rod Arm Spring is under tension and cause injury if not correctly removed. The Push Rod Arms must be in the raised position when removing the springs.

Use the box end of a combination wrench to hook the end of the Push Rod Arm Spring[1] and pull the spring off of the shoulder bolt[2].

Remove the hardware[3] to remove Push Rod Arm[4] assembly.

Transfer the left Push Rod Arm components to the retrofit arm and install the new retrofit Flat Spring[1], Flat Spring Retainer[2] and button head cap screw[3].

Transfer the right Push Rod Arm components to the retrofit arm and install the new retrofit Flat Spring[1], Flat Spring Retainer[2] and button head cap screw[3].

Perform the following steps on both the left and right Push Rod Arm Shaft assemblies

Remove the snap ring[1] from the Push Rod Arm Shaft[2].

Remove the Push Rod Arm Shaft[3] from the Bulkhead Bushing and remove the Bulkhead Bushing Locknut[4], Lock Washer[5], and Bulkhead Bushing[6].

Apply grease to the OD of the Push Rod Arm Shaft and retrofit Push Rod Arm Shaft and to the ID of the retrofit Bulkhead Bushings.

On the left/drive side, install the new retrofit tight tolerance Bulkhead Bushing assembly. Reinstall the original Push Rod Arm Shaft and install the retrofit snap ring included in kit.

On the right/non-drive side, install the new retrofit Bulkhead Bushing assembly and install the retrofit Push Rod Arm Shaft without the snap ring groove.

Install the retrofit Push Rod Arm Stop to the non-drive side.

Reinstall the assembled retrofit Push Rod Arms to bar feeder.

Install the Torsion Bar to the left and right Push Rod Arms with the split washers and socket head cap screws.

Reinstall the rear sheet metal panel.
