Introduction

The following video shows how to use the T-0150 CABLE TESTER KIT.

NOTE:  This service video is for reference only and does not replace the written procedure.

This procedure will describe how to use the Haas Cable Tester Kit.

The kit uses an RJ45 ethernet cable tester and has various adapters to test various types of cables. Each type of cable adapter will come in pairs, one end will connect to the main body and the other end connects to the detachable end.

The integrity of these cables is very important for the correct function of the machine. The Haas cable tester kit enables you to quickly and easily verify the integrity of these cables.

This procedure applies to the following kits:

  • T-0150 RJ45 CABLE TESTER KIT

This kit includes:

  • RJ45 Cable Tester unit
  • CBL TSTR SRV ENC-1
  • CBL TSTR SRV ENC-2
  • CBL TSTR SRV MTR PWR-1
  • CBL TSTR SRV MTR-2
  • CBL TSTR USB-1
  • CBL TSTR USB-2
  • CBL TSTR NCE-1
  • CBL TSTR NCE-2

Servo Motor encoder (Sigma 5 & 7 Only) Cable

1

Turn off the machine.

Remove any sheet metal or motor cover to gain access to the servo motor cables.

NOTE: This photo shows the X-axis servo motor. The adapter can be used on any of the axis motors.

Disconnect the servo motor encoder cable [1] and the proximity home switch cable [2].

Connect the proximity home switch [3] and servo motor encoder [4] cables to the corresponding ends of the CBL TSTR SRV ENC-2 adapter (tighten till snug).

Connect the CBL TSTR SRV ENC-2 adapter to the cable tester remote unit [5].

2

Remove the Maincon cover.

Disconnect cable from the necessary port on the Maincon PCB [6].

NOTE: This photo shows the X-axis port [6]. The adapter can be used on any of the axis ports.

Connect the cable to the CBL TSTR SRV ENC-1 adapter [7].

Connect the CBL TSTR SRV ENC-1 adapter to the cable tester master unit [8].

Turn on the master unit [9].

NOTE: Turning Master unit [9] to S will slow down the rate the lights move through the pin locations.

3

Watch the master cable tester unit closely to see which pin locations flash.

Compare the pins that flashed to the list below.

Good cable will read the following in sequential order:

  • Maincon PCB connection end: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
  • Motor encoder connection end: 1, 2, 3 + 7, 4, 5, 6
  •  NOTE: On a good cable all pin locations will individually flash green in sequential order except for 3 and 7 on the tester at the motor encoder connection end; they will flash green at the same time when 3 lights up on the tester at the Maincon PCB connection end.

This is because on the encoder cable, these 2 pins are tied together for the +5V. Bad cables will not flash on one or more of the pin locations.

NOTE: If pin 7 on the remote does not light up, then there is an issue with pin 1 on the home switch M12 connector. If pin 3 does not light up on the remote, then there is an issue with either the encoder connector or the home switch M12 connector. Other cable testers may show different indicators.

Verify the reading on the remote cable tester unit.

Make sure the cable passes the test.

If cable tester detects a problem with the cable, replace the cable and test before installing. Note which pins failed on the bad cable.

Servo Motor Power Cable

1

Turn off the machine.

Remove paneling and servo motor cover to gain access to the servo motor cables.

Disconnect cable from servo motor [1].

Connect cable to the CBL TSTR SRV MTR-2 adapter [2].

Connect the CBL TSTR SRV MTR-2 adapter to the cable tester remote unit [3].

2

Remove the stack cover.

Disconnect red, white, black, and ground cables from the necessary axis servo amplifier [4].

NOTE: This photo shows the X-axis servo amplifier [4]. The adapter can be used on any of the axis servo amplifiers.

Attach each cable to the corresponding terminal on the CBL TSTR SRV MTR PWR-1 adapter (red to red, white to white etc.) [5].

Connect the CBL TSTR SRV MTR PWR-1 adapter to the cable tester master unit [6].

Turn on the master unit [7].

NOTE: Turning Master unit [7] to S will slow down the rate the lights move through the pin locations.

3

Watch the master cable tester unit closely to see which pin locations flash.

Compare the pins that flashed to the list below.

Good cable reading: 1, 2, 3, 4

NOTE: Good cables will individually flash green in sequential order at all pin locations. Bad cables will not flash on one or more of the pin locations. Other cable testers may show different indicators.

Verify the reading on the remote cable tester unit.

Make sure the cable passes the test.

If cable tester detects a problem with the cable, replace the cable and test before installing. Note which pins failed on the bad cable.

USB Cable

1

Turn off the machine.

NOTE: This photo shows the pendant USB cable. The adapter can be used on any USB cable.

Plug the CBL TSTR USB-1 adapter into USB port on the side of the pendant [1].

Connect the CBL TSTR USB-1 adapter to the cable tester remote unit [2].

2

Remove the SKBIF cover.

NOTE: This photo shows the pendant USB cable. The adapter can be used on any USB cable.

Disconnect the USB connection cable from the J21 back port on the SKBIF PCB [3].

Connect the USB connection cable to the CBL TSTR USB-2 adapter [4].

Connect the CBL TSTR USB-2 adapter to the cable tester master unit [5].

Turn on the master unit [6].

NOTE: Turning Master unit [6] to S will slow down the rate the lights move through the pin locations.

3

Watch the master cable tester unit closely to see which pin locations flash.

Compare the pins that flashed to the list below.

Good cable reading: 1, 2, 3, 4, G

NOTE: Good cables will individually flash green in sequential order at all pin locations. Bad cables will not flash on one or more of the pin locations. Other cable testers may show different indicators.

Verify the reading on the remote cable tester unit.

Make sure the cable passes the test.

If cable tester detects a problem with the cable, replace the cable and test before installing. Note which pins failed on the bad cable.

Non-Contact Encoder (Spindle Motor) Cable

1

Turn off the machine.

Remove spindle motor cover.

Disconnect spindle motor overheat cable [1] from the spindle head connector bracket.

Disconnect the non-contact encoder cable from the read-head [2].

Connect the non-contact encoder [3] and spindle motor overheat [4] cables to the corresponding CBL TSTR NCE-2 adapter ends.

Connect the CBL TSTR NCE-2 adapter to the cable tester remote unit [5].

2

Remove the stack cover.

Disconnect the cable from the P22 port on the Maincon PCB [6].

Connect the cable to the CBL TSTR NCE-1 adapter [7].

Connect the CBL TSTR NCE-1 adapter to the cable tester master unit [8].

Turn on the master unit [9].

NOTE: Turning Master unit [9] to S will slow down the rate the lights move through the pin locations.

3

Watch the master cable tester unit closely to see which pin locations flash.

Compare the pins that flashed to the list below.

Good cable reading: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

NOTE: Good cables will individually flash green in sequential order at all pin locations. Bad cables will not flash on one or more of the pin locations. Other cable testers may show different indicators.

Verify the reading on the remote cable tester unit.

Make sure the cable passes the test.

If cable tester detects a problem with the cable, replace the cable and test before installing. Note which pins failed on the bad cable.
