VMC - Side Window Interlock - Installation - AD0365

Introduction

This procedure tells you how to install the side-window interlock [1].

This procedure applies to the following service kits:

  • 93-2682: SERVICE KIT, SIDE WINDOW INTERLOCKS

Machine Compatibility:

  • For machines with Next Generation Control only.

Installation

Download the latest parameters for the machine. Refer to Next Generation Control - Configuration File - Download/Load

NOTE: The machine needs to have the latest parameters to utilize the interlocks.

Open the doors to the machine. Make sure the bits in the diagnostics page change for both the rigth and left door.

Power down the machine.

Set the main circuit breaker to the [OFF] position. Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag.

DANGER: If the vector drive voltage indicator light is on, do not touch the electrical components. The high voltage in the control cabinet can kill you. Wait for the voltage indicator LED on the vector drive to go off completely.

Attach the interlock key to the bracket using #8-32 screws, nuts and washers.

Insert the key into the interlock and use the interlock assembly to locate where the holes [1] need to be drilled on the window handle and side panel. Mark and drill the holes. Use a 1/4" diameter drill bit.

Attach the interlock and the key bracket with #10-32 screws [2], nuts and washers.

Route the cables under the enclosure to the control cabinet. Make sure to use cable clamps to fasten the cables to the machine. Use a 5/16" diameter drill bit for the cable clamps.

Write down the cable numbers that connect to P41 and P42 on the I/O PCB. For example, on a VF-1 and VF-2, it is important that these connections are correct.

  • Cable 33-6925 is connected to P42
  • Cable 33-6921 is connected to P41

Disconnect cables plugged there and insert new 33-6935 as shown on the labels to P41/P42 respectively.

 NOTE: Cable 33-6935 is universal for VF-1 thru 12 machines.

With the 33-6935 cable connected to the PCB, connect the door cables that were unplugged to the pigtails located on the cable plugged to P41, and P42. Make sure the door cables are connected to pigtail connector that corresponds to the correct I/O PCB connection.

Wire the other end of the cables to the correct door lock.

  • Connect the cable 33-6935 (M12 end) to the right door interlock on the window and the other end (m12) to the left door interlock on the window. This is labeled on the cable.
  • Connect the cable 33-6925 (M12 end) to the left Haas Air Door Lock. The label on 33-6925 states “Right Door” but is for the left door on Small VF machines.
  • Connect the cable 33-6921 (M12 end) to the right Haas Air Door Lock.

Check the wiring by opening the right window. If the wiring is correct, the diagnostics page bit for the right window will change from 1 to 0.

Test the interlocks.

Use the key on the side of the control to put the machine in SETUP mode. Refer to Haas Setup and Run Modes — How To video.

Shut the doors and the windows. Enter S100 M03 in MDI mode and press [CYCLE START]. Confirm that the spindle turns with the doors and windows closed.

With the spindle turning, open one of the side windows. Confirm that the spindle stops turning. Repeat the process for the doors and the other side window. Check the wiring if the spindle does not stop turning when a door or window is opened.
