Introduction

This procedure will show you how to install the 8M DC autodoor option on mills.

Machine Requirements:

  • Next Generation Control
  • If your machine doesnt have a hinged door already 93-1000297 I/O DOOR ASSY HINGED is needed for the autodoor installation.
  • See sheet metal requirements table below for specific machine details to see if your machine is able to install autodoor. Machines after this date are able to, machines before are not.

IMPORTANT: This procedure is for reference only, all 8M autodoor installation kits will superseed to the CAN autodoor installation kits.

This document applies to the following kits:

8M Autodoor Kits

  • 93-1000192: AUTODOOR FIELD INSTALL KIT VF SMALL
  • 93-1000193: AUTODOOR FIELD INSTALL KIT VF MED NYT
  • 93-1000194: AUTODOOR FIELD INSTALL KIT VF MED YT
  • 93-1000387: AUTODOOR FIELD INSTALL KIT VF-6/8
  • 93-1000388: AUTODOOR FIELD INSTALL KIT VF-7/9
  • 93-1000389: AUTODOOR FIELD INSTALL KIT VF-10/11

IMPORTANT: This procedure is for reference only, all 8M autodoor installation kits will superseed to the CAN autodoor installation kits.

Installation

Cut the track [1] and tape [2] to your machine specific length in the table below.

Clean the bottom of the track mount [3] and make sure it is not contaminated. Cut the double sided tape [4] to the length described below, peel off one side of the tape and leave the other intact, and connect the mount [3] and [4] together.

Bolt the track assembly onto the top of the door panels [1] using the PHCS 10-24 SELF TAPPING THREADS.

The process shown is for the left side, the bolt hole used is the closest to the edge where the two doors meet, the bolt hole used here is as shown [2]. For the right it is the inner position hole.

NOTE:  Do not peel off the double sided tape just yet, make sure the track has some play for adjustment.

Peel off a bit of the tape [1],  but do not peel off the full amount. This will be peeled off in a later step.

To install the left motor assembly insert the mounting bracket [1] into the mounting holes bolt the motor [2] to the mounting bracket [1] using  FBHCS 1/4-20 bolts. To complete the motor installation mount the stiffener bracket [3] to the inside of the enclosure and attach the 1/4-20 nuts to the mounting bracket [1] and the motor. 

NOTE: The stiffener bracket is only installed on the VF-Large series.

To install the right motor assembly repeat step 3.

 NOTE: The stiffener bracket is only installed on the large series VF.

Track alignment and wiring

To align the track to the motor it is important for the wheel to have full engagement on the track, DO NOT sacrifice door alignment for track alignment, if you are having issues aligning the track adjust the track itself with the slots in the track clips.

Once the track is aligned peel the tape bit that was left prior and apply pressure as you peel..

VF-small

Route the pneumatic hoses as shown, the Tee fitting will connect all 3 hoses at location [1].

VF-medium

Route the pneumatic hoses as shown, the Tee fitting will connect all 3 hoses at location [1].

VF-Large

Route the pneumatic hoses as shown, the Tee fitting will connect all 3 hoses at location [1]. 

NOTE: In the large VF series the hoses will keep the same routing, but change in length. The longest hose will always go accross both doors to the left motor, the second longest will go from he lube panel to the Tee fitting location [1]

Connect pneumatic hose to solenoid shown, a bare lube panel is used to help easily identify which solenoid to connect to.

Install the motor cover, apply some tacky grease if possible on the cap [1] of the motor to make the installation easier and bolt the cover using FBHCS 1/4-20. Be sure there is sufficient clearance within the gap [2], if any adjustments are needed do so by untightening the bolts on the panel [3] and adjust. 

 

NOTE: If you are installing the autodoor on a VF-1/2 and it already has HIL installed, you will need to install the riser plate. Please refer to the riser plate installation section in the HIL installation procedure, to

Install the bumper spacer [1] on the VF-small/medium series machines.

 NOTE: The bumper spacer will not be needed for the VF-Large series

Open the doors and set the bumper gap [1] is between 1-1.5 inches

Add a bit of superglue before installing the Trim-Lok, then install to the right door as shown.

Electrical Installation

 DANGER: Working with the electrical services required for CNC machines is extremely hazardous and can result in serious injury or death.

Before connecting line wires to the CNC:

  • Turn off all power to the machine at the source.
  • Perform a Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedure to ensure the power remains off during service.
  • Verify that power has been disconnected by using an AC voltage detector on all incoming lines.

If you are uncertain about how to safely disconnect power or perform LOTO procedures:

  • Do not proceed.
  • Contact qualified personnel or obtain appropriate assistance before continuing.

Failure to follow these precautions may result in electrical shock, equipment damage, or fatal injury.

 Danger: Before beginning any work inside the control cabinet, verify that the High Voltage indicator light on the 320V Power Supply / Vector Drive has been off for a minimum of five (5) minutes. This waiting period ensures that residual voltage has dissipated and reduces the risk of electric shock.

Certain service procedures involve high-risk electrical components and may pose serious injury or fatality hazards. Technicians must not attempt any procedure unless they have a complete understanding of the steps involved and the associated risks.

If there is any uncertainty regarding a procedure, contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) to arrange for a qualified service technician.

The power supply must be wired following the image, the labels should reflect what is shown. 

The LVPS that was just mounted  will connect to the relays on the 8M PCB board and the PSUP PCB. The motor wires that were routed with the pneumatic hoses will connect to the 8M PCB as well and the pneumatic hoses will go to the Lube Panel. All other connections are shown in the diagram.

Connect the autodoor button to J15 on the SKBIF PCB.

Factory Settings

Go into Service Mode:

Navigate to Diagnostics-->Parameters-->Factory:

Adjust the door opening time, 

The DC MOTOR LEFT DOOR OPEN TIME is parameter: 2229

The DC MOTOR RIGHT DOOR OPEN TIME is parameter: 2230

NOTE:Each 0.1 second of door opening time correlates to approx. 1 inch of door travel

Verification

Press the Autodoor button on the side of the control pendant and test the autodoor works correctly.
