HDC-3-5AX - MRZP Test Cut - Setup

This procedure applies to the following service kits:

  • EK-0021 - HSK100A MRZP TEST CUT KIT INCH
  • EK-0025 - HSK100A MRZP TEST CUT KIT METRIC

Demo Description:

This part is done in one operation and is designed to check the MRZP settings on a HDC-3-5AX machine.

 IMPORTANT: This test cut is used to fine tune the MRZP settings, this is not used as pass or no pass test. The geometry report is used to make sure the machine meets Haas specifications.

The Tool Length and Work Offsets must be set with the Probing System.

 Note: The aluminum stock is not included in the kit.

Set G54 Offset:

Bolt the vise to the center of the table as show in photo.

G54 X zero is center of the stock.

G54 Y zero is center of the stock.

G54 Z zero is 0.02 inches below the top of stock.

G54 B zero is B0. Machine position

G54 C zero is C0. Machine position

Machine Warm Up:

 Note: The machine must be warmed up before cutting the test cut part.

 Important: Run the test cut program with a Z-Axis offset to avoid part.​

 Note: Probe the tool length offsets after running the warm up program.

HDC-3-5AX - MRZP Test Cut - Tool Setup

Tool Number 1:

Minimum Working Length: 1.9" (48.26mm)

Tool Number 2:

Minimum Working Length: 2.75" (69.85mm)

Tool Number 3:

Minimum Working Length: 1.0" (25.4mm)

HDC-3-5AX - MRZP Test Cut - X/Y Squareness

Measure the outside square cut with the side of the End Mill. This should measure 3.95” +/- .001" (99.0mm +/-.025mm) along the X and Y axis.

If this does not measure correctly, check to make sure you are using the correct size End Mill and do a ball bar test to make sure the X to Y axis ratio is correct.

With the part in the vise, use an indicator to measure the step between the two tool paths.

Measure the step on either side of the pocket.

Measure these two locations on all four sides of the part and use the Y+ and X+ arrows to record the measurements below.

If there is a step out from the top surface to the bottom surface, record a positive value. If there is a step in from the top surface to the bottom surface, record a negative value.

Adjust setting 300 MRZP X OFFSET MASTER until the X+ and X- results match.

  • If the X+ side has a positive step and the X- side has a negative step, adjust these settings in the positive direction by half the difference.
  • If the X+ side has a negative step and the X- side has a positive step, adjust these settings in the negative direction by half the difference.
  • Adjust this setting until steps on the two sides in the X-direction are on the part are as close to the same as possible. 

Adjust setting 301 MRZP Y OFFSET MASTER until the Y+ and Y- results match.

  • If the Y+ side has a positive step and the Y- side has a negative step, adjust these settings in the positive direction by half the difference.
  • If the Y+ side has a negative step and the Y- side has a positive step, adjust these settings in the negative direction by half the difference.
  • Adjust this setting until steps on the two sides in the Y-direction are on the part are as close to the same as possible. 

HDC-3-5AX - MRZP Test Cut - MRZP Setting 303 Adjustment

With a micrometer, measure the distance between the top face and pocket. Record the measured values for the two sides of the part.

This distance should be as close as possible to 0.500” (12.0mm).

Adjust Setting 303 MRZP X AXIS SLAVE.

  • If X+ side is larger than the X- side, adjust these settings by the half the difference of the two measurements in the negative direction.
  • If X- side is larger than the X+ side, adjust these settings by the half the difference of the two measurements in the positive direction.

Adjust this setting until the X+ and X- sides measure as close as possible. They do not need to be 0.500" (12.0mm). The next adjustment will change the measurement of both sides.

Note: Adjusting setting 303 will also change the depth of these two cutouts.

With a micrometer, measure the distance between the top face and pocket. Measure in two locations, the left and right side of the pocket. Record the measured values for all four sides of the part.

This distance should be as close as possible to 0.625” (15.0mm).

If all four sides have the same error, adjust setting 305 MRZP Z AXIS SLAVE until all four sides are as close as possible to 0.625" (15.0mm).

  • If all four sides are too large, adjust the settings of the measured error in the negative direction.
  • If all four sides are too small, adjust the settings of the measured error in the positive direction.

This adjustment will also change the measurement in step # 2 and step # 3

With a micrometer, measure the distance between the side face and pocket. Measure in two locations, the left and right side of the pocket. Record the measured values for all four sides of the part.

This distance should as close as possible to 0.625” (15.0mm).

These values should be correct if the values in MRZP Settings 300 & 301 Adjustment are set correctly.
