This procedure tells you how to install an Automatic Tool Presetter (ATP) on an ST-20 built after Mar 2013.

This document applies to the following kits:

• 93-1000256 Lathe Tool Presetter ST-20/35 
• 93-1000257 Lathe Tool Presetter ST-20/25/30 
• 93-2270 S20/25 ATP FIO Kit
• 93-2284 ST-20/25 ATP Field Install Option
• 93-2831 ALTP Field Install Option ST-20/30 

Remove the plugs from the bulkhead.

Install the rubber grommet to the home cover block.

Install the home cover block to the bulkhead. Leave the bolts loose. They will be tightened later.

Install the rubber grommet to the ATP.

 NOTE: The flat part of the grommet will face the bulkhead.

Remove the ATP cover plate.

If the Parts Catcher (PCAT) option is installed, you will need to remove the PCAT air cylinder assembly to route the ATP hoses and cables.

 NOTE: Sheet metal and other parts have been removed for clarity. You do not need to remove any additional components.

Move the PCAT air cylinder assembly away from the bulkhead to route the ATP hoses and cables through the hole.

Pull the hoses and cables through the hole in the bulkhead sheet metal.

Install the Parts Catcher pivot shaft through the hole in the bulkhead. Put the ATP hoses and cables in the cutout in the rear of the PCAT air cylinder body.

Install the PCAT air cylinder assembly with (4) bolts. Torque the bolts to 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm).

 NOTE: Sheet metal and other parts have been removed for clarity. You do not need to remove any additional components.

Use the positioning pin to align the ATP.

Attach the ATP to the bulkhead with the (2) 3/8-16 x 5.5" bolts. Tighten, but do not torque, the bolts.

Install the 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" bolt inside the ATP body. Tighten, but do not torque, the bolts. It may be necessary to remove the front cable clamp to install the bolt.

Manually lower the ATP arm. Make sure the tool is centered on the stylus. Torque the (3) bolts to 50 ft-lb (68 Nm).

Install the ATP cover plate.

Route the hose through the hose clip as shown. Connect the grey hose to the top fitting. Connect the purple hose to the lower fitting. Make sure the color of the hose and the color of the cable tie on the connector are the same.

1.  Connect the cable labeled "Tool Probe" to the port labeled "TL Probe" [1] on the connector bracket.
2.  Connect the cable labeled "PKT UP" to the port labeled "TL Probe Up" [2] on the connector bracket.
3.  Connect the cable labeled "PKT Down" to the port labeled "TL Probe Down" [3] on the connector bracket.

Remove the plug from the bottom hole of the air distribution manifold.

Put the cable ties on the solenoid. The purple cable tie goes on the A side of the solenoid and the grey cable tie goes on the B side of the solenoid.

Install the solenoid into the bottom hole of the air distribution manifold. Make sure the solenoid is level with the other solenoids.

Connect the purple and grey hoses to the solenoid. Make sure the color of the hose and the color of the cable tie on the solenoid are the same.

Connect the ATP solenoid cable to the electrical connector labeled "Tool Presetter".

Caution: Make sure the ATP arm travel is clear. The arm may lower when the air is turned on.

Turn the air on and listen for leaks at the air distribution manifold.

1.  Command an M104 in MDI mode to install the probe stylus to the end of the presetter arm.
2.  Attach the magnetic base of a dial indicator to the turret.
3.  Sweep the probe stylus until it is parallel to the Z Axis to within 0.0002" (0.005 mm). Loosen the bolt on the stylus tip to adjust the position.

Make sure the tool is centered on the stylus. Use the top adjustment bolt to move the stylus up and down.

Command an M105 in MDI mode to retract the presetter arm and adjust the home cover block. Make sure the home cover block is in a position so the tool probe does not hit it, and then tighten the bolts.

The presetter arm should come in contact with the rubber grommet on the home cover block while in the up position to keep contaminants away from the stylus.

Use the bottom adjustment bolt to bring the presetter arm closer to the home cover block if needed.

Install the plugs into the home cover block.

Set Parameter 805 to 2. When the parameter is set to 2, the value should read 'PROBE_ARM_AUTO'. Classic Haas Control will simply show the value as '2'.

Use the M104 and M105 commands in MDI mode to test the tool presetter.
