Introduction

This procedure will guide you through the installation of the SR-3015 machine.

Tools required:

  • Bubble level
  • 1-1/8" Wrench
  • Magnetic base (optional)

The SR-3015 can be lifted by forklift. For details on how to lift the SR-3015 refer to the Pre-Installation Guide, or the machine lifting placard located on the machine.

Note : SR-3015 will arrive with a L15-30P plug already wired into the pedestal and will require an L15-30R receptacle to be powered on.

Remove Rust inhibitor

For ease of removal, use either a heavy duty citrus cleaner or Simple Green to spray all the surfaces that have been coated with rust inhibitor. Let it soak for a few minutes before removing it using a shop towel. It is reccomended to apply mineral spirit or WD-40 to all exposed metal surfaces for rust proofing.

Important : To avoid any contamination of the way cover seals with the sticky residue do not move any of the axes until all the rust inhibitor and rust paper have been removed.

Note : If there is rust inhibitor left over that is difficult to remove with simple green, use brake cleaner.

Initial Assembly

Install the motor covers [1] and lube reservoir cover [2] using provided hardware.

Note : These panel have been removed for shipping purposes.

Note : Bump sensors are pre-assembled onto the motor covers and only need to be plugged in.

Ensure that the barrel connectors [1] and [2] are properly seated to each other and that the locking collar is fully tightened.

Pendant Install and RJH mounting

Install pedestal mounting bracket [1] to the bottom of the pendant using the provided hardware.

Install the pendant [1] and backet [2] assembly to the top of the pedestal.

Connect the power cable [1] and communication cables [2] and [3] to the pendant and route them through the hole on the top of the pedestal to the bottom.

Note : The communication cables have one male and one female side that connect in only 1 way to the pendant board.

Connect the communication cables [2] into the pendant communication board [1].

Note : The pendant communication board is located at the front of the pedestal.

Install the RJH holder [1] onto the side of the cabinet using the provided hardware.

Connect the RJH cable from the RJH [1] to the back of the pendant [2].

Electrical Installation / Shipping Bracket Removal

DANGER: WORKING WITH ELECTRICAL SERVICES REQUIRED FOR A CNC ARE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. ALL POWER TO CNC MUST BE TURNED OFF LOCKOUT-TAGOUT AT THE SOURCE PRIOR TO CONNECTING THE LINE WIRES TO CNC. HOWEVER, IF THIS NOT THE CASE OR ARE NOT SURE HOW TO DO THIS, CHECK WITH APPROPIATE PERSONNEL OR OBTAIN THE NECESSARY HELP BEFORE CONTINUING. ALWAYS CHECK THE INCOMING LINES WITH AN AC VOLTAGE DETECTOR TO MAKE SURE POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED.

Important : This step is not necessary as of 10/24 since all SR-3015 machines will arrive with an L15-30P plug.

Insert each power lead into the wire cover.  Connect the three power leads to L1, L2 and L3 terminals on top of the main circuit breaker inside the electrical cabinet.

Note : The ground wire goes on a threaded stud located at the top left of the cabinet and held on by a flanged nut.

Note: Make sure that the leads actually go into the terminal-block clamps . (A poor connection will cause the machine to run intermittently or have other problems, such as servo overloads.) To check, simply pull on the wires after the screws are tightened.

After the line voltage is connected to the machine, make sure that main circuit breaker is OFF . Turn ON the power at the source.

Using a digital voltmeter and appropriate safety procedures measure the AC voltage between all three pair phases at the main circuit breaker. 

The AC voltage must be between 195 and 260 volts

Note: Wide voltage fluctuations are common in many industrial areas; minimum and maximum voltage supplied to a machine while it is in operation must be known. U.S. National Electrical Code specifies that machines should operate with a variation of +5% to -5% around an average supply voltage. If problems with line voltage occur, or low line voltage is suspected, an external transformer may be used. If you suspect voltage problems, voltage should be checked every hour or two during a typical day to be sure it does not fluctuate more than +5% or -5% from an average.

After powering up the machine [ZERO RETURN] then [SINGLE] the Z-axis.

Remove the shipping bracket by undoing the 4-bolts holding it down and the removing the T-slot nuts from underneath.

All the other axes can now be homed to preform machine leveling.

Power / phase verification is done by commanding the spindle to rotate clockwise and verifying that it is rotating clockwise. If the spindle rotates in the anti-clockwise direction then switch the phase of the machine.

Note: This step preformed after the removal of shipping bracket.

Installation

Note : It is reccomended to have the feet at the lowest possible position as a starting point.

To level the machine always raise the lower side by loosening the nut [1] on the foot [2] until it stops at the bottom then use the nut to rotate the entire foot to adjust the height up.

Only use legs 1, 2, and 3 to level the machine. Only touch down leg 4 when the machine is leveled and turn the wrench an extra 10 degrees to apply pressure.

To level the machine use a level attached to the bridge. Level the machine at the center of travel then fine tune by jogging the Y-axis to the ends of its travel and adjusting the feet accordingly.

Note : Leveling can be done using a standard bubble level. If your level is too large to be used in the shown positon a mag base can be attached to the bridge and used as a base.

Install the vaccuum hose holder to the side of the machine [1] then intsall the spindle vacuum hose bracket [2].

Note : The spindle vacuum hose bracket is a 2-piece design that has one section that clamps onto the spindle and the other uses latches for ease of removal for tool changing.

To install the spindle vacuum hose bracket tighten the clamping bolt [1].
