3rd Party Conveyor - Integration Aid

Introduction

This document is intended to aid in the integration of a 3rd party conveyor to a Haas machine with the Next Generation Control (NGC). Haas Service  personnel can help to make sure that the CNC machine operates correctly. 

Danger: Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not fully understand. If you have any doubts about doing a procedure contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service visit.

WARNING: There are a number of elements that are needed to install 3rd Party options on a Haas Machine. It is the responsibility of the customer to choose a 3rd Party manufacturer and integrator to successfully install these options to the Haas machine. The 3rd Party Option must meet the specification found in this document. The Haas Service and Applications staff will help to ensure the CNC machine is functioning properly, but is not responsible for setup or system integration of the 3rd Party option.

Machine Requirements:

  • This option can only be installed on UMC reboot machines. 
    • NOTE: The UMC-500, UMC-1000, UMC-1250, and UMC-1500-DUO are all considered reboot machine.  To verify if your UMC-750 is a reboot machine please refer to the UMC-750 Machine Version - Identification document. 

Functionality Requirements:

  • 3rd party conveyor motor must be capable of being reversed electronically in order to ensure “FWD/REV” direction corresponds with our control

  • UMC-500/SS
  • UMC-750/SS
  • UMC-1000/SS
  • UMC-1000-P/SS
  • UMC-1250/SS
  • UMC-1500-DUO/SS

Electrical Requirements

The conveyor motor must satisfy the following electrical requirements to integrate to the Haas machine. 

WARNING: Motors outside of Haas specifications may not function as intended and Haas service are not responsible for such motors. 

  • Single phase motor, 211-259 VAC, 50/60Hz
  • Power: 1/8 HP nominal.
  • Full load current: 0.75 – 0.8 Arms
  • In-rush/locked rotor current: 1.7 Arms maximum.
  • Motor must be capable of being reversed electronically.
  • Thermal or impedance protection.
  • Power cable connector type: L15-20P (black, white, red, green).

Haas recommends the power cable to be a L15-20P (Black – Z, White – X, Red – Y, Green – G) type to be compatible with our receptacle (L15-20R) on the coolant connector bracket. 

Customers have the option to change power cables as needed so long as the power cable satisfies our electrical requirements and meets electrical safety standards. 

Conveyor Envelope Requirements

When purchasing a 3rd party conveyor Haas is requiring that it follows the envelope dimensions described in this image.

Please refer to the table below for the dimensions for your specific machine, tolerances are included with the measurement.

NOTE: In the table below dimension F & G are stated to be "adjustable." For dimension F this is the dimensions from one end of the side wing panel to the opposite end. Typically these have mounting slots for adjustability. For dimension G this is the dimensions from the top end of the side wing panel to the bottom of the conveyor. This is adjustable because depending where the wings attach this value may change.

Installation

Remove the conveyor opening cover from the machine.

Place the conveyor into the machine by sliding the conveyor into the casting funnel. 

NOTE: The conveyor in the image will most likely not reflect the conveyor you purchase from a 3rd party vendor. This image is for reference only, please verify with your 3rd party vendor lifting points, weights, and other important details for installation.

Visit the Haas Business Center website to apply all applicable patches.

Wire the motor, Haas recommends to follow the motor wiring shown in this image.

NOTE: Motor wire colors can vary from vendor to vendor.

Please verify the following Conveyor Motion after wiring the motor:

When power is applied to black and red cable leads (“CHIP FWD” button on Haas control), conveyor moves in the forward direction, i.e., pushes chips out.

When power is applied to black and white cable leads (“CHIP REV” button on Haas control), conveyor moves in the reverse direction, i.e., pulls chips in.

NOTE: The wiring of white and red leads can be swapped to change the direction of the motor.
