This procedure will show you how to install the WIPS system on EC-400/500/630 machines.

Requirements:

• All NGC Machines

This procedure applies to the following kits:

• 93-1000219 - INTUITIVE PROBING BT40 EC400
• 93-1000230 - INTUITIVE PROBING CT40 EC400
• 93-1000394 - INTUITIVE PROBING HSK-A63 EC-400/500
• 93-1000866 - INTUITIVE PROBING CT50 EC-500/50
• 93-1000867 - INTUITIVE PROBING BT50 EC-500/50
• 93-1000868 - INTUITIVE PROBING CT50 EC-630
• 93-1000869 - INTUITIVE PROBING BT50 EC-630

Stone and clean the B-AXIS BODY surface [1].

Stone [1] and clean the POP-UP PROBE ASSEMBLY surface [2].

Rotate the purple zip-tie and the gray zip-tie towards each other [3]. 

EC-630 Machines

Install bracket [1] with the (4) SCHS 5/16-18 X 2 1/2" bolts [2].

Remove right operator's side front panel [1].

Find the PURPLE HOSE & GRAY HOSE [1].

Route purple hose [1] and grey hose [2] air lines through the B-Axis Body Casting [3].

Cut the Purple and Gray Hose [1] H=3" long.

 EC-630 ONLY: 3" from top of Bracket

Remove the red plastic plugs from the POP-UP PROBE Assembly.

Connect the PURPLE HOSE [1] and GREY HOSE [2] to the POP-U PROBE.

EC-400/500 Machines

Fasten the POP-UP PROBE [1] to the B-AXIS BODY [2] with the (4) SHCS 5/16-18 x 10 [3].

Torque fasteners. Refer to Haas Fastener Torque Specifications.

EC-630 Machines

Fasten the POP-UP PROBE [1] to the B-AXIS BODY [2] with the (4) SHCS 5/16-18 x 10 [3].
NOTE: Note the orientation of the POP-UP PROBE.

Torque fasteners. Refer to Haas Fastener Torque Specifications.

Secure the UP/DOWN SENSORS [1] with VELCRO STRAPS.

Route the UP/DOWN SENSORS [1] through the CABLE CARRIER [2] (on the same channel as the air hoses).

Connect the UP/DOWN SENSOR CABLES [1] on the CONNECTOR BRACKET [2] location labeled PROBE UP and PROBE DOWN.

EC-400/500 Machines

Remove the hardware [1] that secures the PROBE BASE ASSEMBLE [2].

Remove the PROBE BASE ASSEMBLE [2] from the PROBE COVER ASSEMBLY.

EC-630 Machines

Remove the hardware [1] that secures the PROBE BASE ASSEMBLE [2].

Remove the PROBE BASE ASSEMBLE [2] from the PROBE COVER ASSEMBLY.

EC-400/500 Machines

Fasten the PROBE BASE PLATE COVER [1] onto the POP-UP PROBE [2] using the (2) FBHCS 1/4-20 x 1/2 screws [3].

EC-630 Machines

Fasten the PROBE BASE PLATE COVER [1] onto the POP-UP PROBE [2] using the (2) FBHCS 1/4-20 x 1/2 screws [3].

EC-400/500 Machines

Stone and clean the PROBE BASE PLATE surface highlighted [1] & [2].

Fasten the PROBE COVER ASSEMBLY [1] onto the PROBE BASE PLATE [2] with the FBHCS 1/4-20 x 1/2 [3].

 NOTE: Wrap the shop towel around exposed portion of the pop-up cylinder rod [4] to avoid any damage while aligning the linkage base. 

EC-630 Machines

Fasten the PROBE COVER ASSEMBLY [1] onto the PROBE BASE PLATE [2] with the FBHCS 1/4-20 x 1/2 [3].

 NOTE: Wrap the shop towel around exposed portion of the pop-up cylinder rod [4] to avoid any damage while aligning the linkage base. 

EC-400/500 Machines

NOTE: Wrap the shop towel around exposed portion of the pop-up cylinder rod to avoid any damage while aligning the linkage base. 

Attach the trap box lid linkage [3] to the top of the pop-up cylinder rod [4] with the bolt [1] and the flat washer [2].

Setup a dial indicator [5] magnetic base on the spindle to indicate the straight edge [6] of the linkage base in Z axis. 

Rotate the linkage base until the straight edge [6] is parallel to Z axis motion NTE 0.003" (0.075 mm). 

Hold the pop-up cylinder rod from rotating with 1" open wrench and tighten the mounting bolt [7].

Verify the alignment of the straight edge [6] after tightening the mounting bolt. Repeat the alignment steps if needed.   

EC-630 Machines

NOTE: Wrap the shop towel around exposed portion of the pop-up cylinder rod to avoid any damage while aligning the linkage base. 

Attach the trap box lid linkage [3] to the top of the pop-up cylinder rod [4] with the bolt [1] and the flat washer [2].

Setup a dial indicator [5] magnetic base on the spindle to indicate the straight edge [6] of the linkage base in Z axis. 

Rotate the linkage base until the straight edge [6] is parallel to Z axis motion NTE 0.003" (0.075 mm). 

Hold the pop-up cylinder rod from rotating with 1" open wrench and tighten the mounting bolt [7].

Verify the alignment of the straight edge [6] after tightening the mounting bolt. Repeat the alignment steps if needed.   

EC-630 Machines

Install the PROBE COVER LOWER [1] with a GASKET PROBE MOUNT CVR [2].

Fasten the (4) BHCS 10-32 x 3/8" [3] to the EC-630 bracket.

With the pop-up probe extended attach the linkage assembly [2] to the trap box lid [3] with the two BHCS [1]. Leave the bolts [1] loose at this time.

Retract the pop-up probe.

With the probe retracted make sure that the linkage mounting bolts [1] have some free movement in the slots. If the bolts are bound-up against the perimeter of the slot check the alignment of the linkage base in the previous step.

Tighten the linkage mounting bolts [1] in small increments until snug.

Extend the pop-up probe. 

Finish tightening the linkage mounting bolts [1] while observing the movement in the links [2]. The linkage mechanism should not have any bind or tension and you should be able to move the links and the lid a small amount by hand. Bound-up linkage will cause the probe repeatability problems.

NOTE: If binding occurs, the screws that fasten the box to the cylinder body [4] can also be used for adjustment. 

Install the OTS [1] onto the OTS base [2] and tighten the six setscrews around the OTS base.

Align the OTS stylus. Refer to the link below for more info.

On the CURRENT COMMANDS page navigate to the DEVICES - MECHANISMS tab and press F2 [1] to extend/retract the tool probe. 

Observe the operation of the pop-up probe cylinder and the trap box lid.
