This procedure tells you how to install the lathe spindle liner adapter and liners.

The adapter [2] goes onto the end of the hydraulic cylinder. The extruded spindle-liner [3] goes inside the adapter. The liner end-cap [1] holds the extruded spindle-liner in position. The size of the adapter changes with the size of the spindle bore. The size of the extruded spindle-liner changes with the size of the bar stock.

Block the spindle so it cannot rotate. Use a physical block like a wooden beam, or the lathe turret or tailstock. If the lathe is equipped with a C Axis, you can use the spindle brake (M14). Never use M19 to block the spindle.

Apply removable thread-locking compound to the inner threads of the liner adapter.

Type A:

Turn the liner adapter [1] onto the threads of the hydraulic union.

Tighten the (3) clamp bolts [2] on the liner adapter.

Check the runout on the liner adaptor. Use the clamp bolts to adjust the runout if needed.

Type B:

Turn the liner adapter [1] onto the threads of the hydraulic union.

Torque the liner adapter to approximately 70 ft-lb (95 Nm). Use the hook tool [3] to tighten the liner adapter.

Tighten the set screws [2] into, or on the liner adapter (ST-25/30).

Type A:

Remove the liner end cap [1]. Select the correct spindle liner for your bar stock. Put the spindle liner [2] into the spindle. If using an inner liner [3] you must use the included washer [4].

Install the liner end cap [1] onto the liner adapter with the wave washer [5] in place. With your hand, twist-lock the cap in place.

Type B:

Loosen the clamp screw and remove the liner end cap [1]. Select the correct spindle liner for your bar stock. Put the spindle liner [2] into the spindle.

Install the cap and tighten the lock screw [7] to approximately 2 ft-lb (3 Nm). If you tighten the screw too much, you can cause damage to the threads. If the screw is too loose, the cap moves.

 Note: If you removed the coolant collector, install it. Make sure you unblock the spindle before you continue operation.
