For inline spindles, loosen motor mount bolts [1]. This will require removing the spindle head cover.

Make sure the table is clean. Remove all surface corrosion. Use a pH-neutral cleaner, degreaser, and an abrasive pad.

Examine the table for high spots. High spots are common near damaged areas. Lightly move a fine grit stone over the table. High spots become shiny.

Put a magnetic base with a 0.0005" (0.01 mm) indicator on the spindle.

 Note: Make sure the indicator base cannot move or turn with the spindle.

Move a gauge block below the indicator stylus from the rear of the indicator. Set the indicator to 0. Remove the gauge block.

Examine the table every 10 inches (25.4 cm) on the X and Y Axis. Move the table to the next location. Move the gauge block under the indicator stylus from the rear of the indicator. Record the value.

 Note: The maximum permitted error is 0.0012" (0.03 mm) at a distance of 10" (25.4 cm).

Move the spindle to the center of the area with the smallest error.

Move the magnetic indicator base onto the spindle nose. Put the stylus 5" (12.7 cm) from the spindle centerline.

 Note: The magnetic indicator base must turn with the spindle.

Move the gauge block under the stylus from the rear of the indicator.

Jog the Z Axis to set the indicator to 0.

Move the gauge block under the indicator stylus from the rear of the indicator. Record the value. Repeat at each 90-degree interval.

If the error is more than 0.0005" (0.01 mm), then you must add or remove shims from the spindle.

If adjustment is necessary, loosen the (6) spindle mounting screws.

Add shims or change the position of the shims between the spindle flange and head casting. This corrects the alignment.

Torque the (6) spindle mounting screws in a star pattern to 10 ft-lb (14 Nm).

Then torque the screws to 30 ft-lb (41 Nm).

Then torque the screws to 50 ft-lb (68 Nm).

Repeat steps 2-5. Adjust the shims if necessary.

 Note: Discard used shims. Do not try to use the shims again.

Operate the spindle at 500 RPM for 20 seconds. Stop the spindle. This aligns the motor to the spindle.

Torque the (4) screws that attach the motor to the mounting plate. Refer to HAAS FASTENER TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. The TRP can be iron or aluminium. Use the correct value for iron or aluminium.

Replace the spindle head covers.
