Automatic Tool Presetter - Installation - NGC

Introduction

This procedure shows how to install an Automatic Tool Presetter on ST series machines. 

This document applies to the following:

  • Non-compact ATP [1]
  • Compact ATP [2]

For ST-40/45 machines : 

Important : If your 93-10000951/93-1000952 kit arrives with the revised ATP arm 20-10558A instead of 20-10558 refer to Symmetric arm replacement section below.

Note : 93-1000893 Compact ATP 20mm and 93-1000952 Compact ATP 20mm contain a longer stylus instead of the standard 10mm and are intended for BMT 24 station indexer turrets.

ATP - Field Installation

Use a punch to knock out the hole plug [1] in the bulkhead. Hit the top or bottom of the plug and rotate it to break it off. File any sharp points down to prevent damage to hoses and cables.

Remove the hole plug and filler bolts [2] from the ATP mount and the home block mount.

If the ATP kit comes with a spacer plate, place the spacer plate in the machine. 

Remove the bottom cover from the ATP assembly and place the ATP over the spacer plate in the machine. Route the hoses and wires through the spacer plate and into the bulkhead.

Remove the side panels from the machine.

NOTE: This image also shows the front panel removed, that is for reference only. It does not need to be removed for this procedure.

Route the air hoses [1] to the lube panel as shown.

Install the solenoid onto the bottom output of the air manifold [2].  Connect each hose to the push-to-connect fitting marked with a zip tie that matches the hose color.

Plug the solenoid cable into the port labeled Tool Presetter.

Route the wires [3] to the panel on the side of the spindle motor.

  • Plug the cable labeled Tool Probe into Auto Tool Probe.
  • Plug the cable labeled PKT Up into Probe Up.
  • Plug the cable labeled PKT Down into Probe Down.

The following applies for the Non-Compact ATP [A] and Compact ATP [B]:

If the ATP kit comes with a spacer plate [1], mount the spacer plate [1] to the bulkhead.

Mount the ATP assembly [2] to the spacer plate [1].

Install the home block [3]

Install the ATP assembly bottom cover.

Seal between the base of the ATP and the bulkhead with Sikaflex

Download the ATP patch file from HBC site and install it on the machine.  

Download the VPS and User-Definable Macros option codes from the HBC site and install it on the machine. 

Align, test, and calibrate the ATP.  Refer to: Automatic Tool Presetter (ATP) - Alignment - Test - Calibration

Symmetric Arm Replacement ST-40/45

Mount spacer plate [1]  to the bulkhead using hardware [2] then mount the ATP assembly [3] to the spacer plate using hardware [4]

Use the home block [5] to locate the position of the new holes by placing it on the ATP arm and roughly centering it while bolting the ATP assembly to the spacer plate [1]

Note : Do not bolt on the Home block to the old hole locations

Move the ATP arm away from the bulkhead with the home block [1] held on the bulkhead and mark the new hole positions.

Note : Make sure that the air supply is depressurized to be able to move the arm

Drill and tap the marked hole [2] locations to accomodate the 1/4-20 hardware included in the SVC kit. The holes should be in this position approximately 0.5in (12.7 mm) away from the original holes [1]

Note : You can also use self tapping screws to hole the home block in place after drilling the holes

Bolt on the home block and verify that the ATP arm [1] goes into position without any interference
