This procedure shows how to upgrade the Coolant flow fitting to swivel fitting. 

This document applies to the following Service Kits:

• 93-5211 COOLANT FLOW SWIVEL UPDATE 5AX

Tools Required:

• 7/16" Deep Socket 
• 7/16" wrench
• Long Air Gun hose or other form of air

Jog the Z-Axis so both the spindle head cover plates [1] and the hoses [2] at the top of the spindle head are accessible. 

Rotate the spindle head to C= 180 [3]. 

Remove the cover plate [1] from the B-Axis body to expose the B-Axis brake.

Note: If possible, bend the coolant hose close to the fitting to limit the amount of coolant that will leak out once the hose is cut. If not, be prepared to plug the hose as the coolant in the hose will flow out and can cause damage to the spindle head if it gets into the spindle or on cables.

Cut the 1/4" transparent blue coolant hose [1] close to the fitting [2].

 Important: Limit the amount of coolant that gets in the spindle head. 

Let the coolant from the cut hose drain into the bottom of the machine.

Note: Be prepared for any remaining chiller fluid to flow out of the hose.

Disconnect the spindle chiller hose from the output port [1] on the spindle chiller. 

Apply a small amount of air [2] into the disconnected hose to force the spindle chiller fluid out of the spindle head.

Continue applying air into the hose until no more fluid runs into the chiller through the return hose [3].

Note: Be prepared for any remaining chiller fluid to flow out of the cut hose.

Cut the left black TRP hose [1] and the right black spindle chiller hose [2] close to the fittings.

Remove the three fittings [1].

Note: A 7/16" deep socket can be helpful in the removal process. 

Note: Be prepared for any remaining coolant fluid to flow out of the hose.

Disconnect the FITG POLY1/4F NPT1/4M STR BRASS fitting [1] from the FITG NPT1/4F NPT1/4F STR BRASS fitting [2] on top of the spindle head.

Remove the 1/4" transparent blue coolant hose from the spindle head.

Note: The 1/4" transparent blue coolant hose can be left and used to pull the 3/8" black polyurethane hose through the head.

Route the 3/8" black polyurethane hose from the service kit through the spindle head.

 Note: The 1/4" transparent blue coolant hose can be used to pull the 3/8" black polyurethane hose through the head.

Verify the FITG NPT 1/8M NPT 1/8F ORIFICE .250 STR [1] are tightly installed onto the FITG POLY 1/4F NPT 1/8M 90 BRASS SWIVEL [2] and FITG POLY 3/8F NPT 1/8M 90° SWIVEL BRASS [3] fittings.

 Note: There are two FITG NPT 1/8M NPT 1/8F ORIFICE .250 STR [1] installed onto the FITG POLY 3/8F NPT 1/8M 90° SWIVEL BRASS [3] fitting.

Install the pre-assembled 3/8F NPT 1/8M 90° SWIVEL BRASS fitting [1] from the service kit to the coolant port.

Install the pre-assembled 1/4F NPT 1/8M 90 BRASS SWIVEL fittings [1] from the service kit to the left and right ports.

 Note: Verify the 1/4F NPT 1/8M 90 BRASS SWIVEL fittings rotate when installed. If they do not rotate freely contact Haas Service. 

Connect the FITG POLY 3/8F NPT 1/4M STR BRASS fitting [1] to the FITG NPT 1/4F NPT 1/4F STR BRASS fitting [2].

Connect the 3/8" black polyurethane hose [3] to the FITG POLY 3/8F NPT 1/4M STR BRASS fitting [1].

Add a blue zip tie [4] to the 3/8" black polyurethane hose [3].

Note: Verify the TRP [1] and spindle chiller [2] lines have clean cuts at the ends and have enough excess length to create a smooth arc.

Note: Cut the 3/8" black polyurethane coolant hose [3] to fit. Excess hose can be pulled back into the space above the spindle head. 

Excess hose can be pulled into the top of the spindle head.

Connect the TRP [1], spindle chiller [2], and coolant [3] hoses to the 90 degree brass swivel fittings.

The TRP and spindle chiller hoses should arc out close to the edge of the B-Axis body to prevent kinks in the lines when the head is rotated to full travel.

Install the spiral wrap [1] on all of the hoses connected to the B-Axis shaft assembly.

Note: Each hose should form a smooth arc when the head is rotated such that the individual fitting is at its lowest point, there should be no binding of the hose with other hoses, they should slide back and forth relative to each other. The spiral warp is there to allow better sliding movement and reduce kink tendency of the hose.

Rotate the B [1] and C-Axis [2] to verify the hoses are not too stressed or too loose.

Extend the drawbar to verify no leak in the TRP hose.

Run the spindle to test the spindle chiller and verify no fluid leaks from the new 90 degree swivel fittings.

Run the coolant to verify no fluid leaks from the coolant line to the top of the spindle head or in the spindle head.

Install the cover plate [1] on the B-Axis body.

Install the sheet metal [1] removed from the top of the spindle head.
