VMC - Multi-Auger Chip Conveyor - Installation

AD0054

Revision D - 05/2026

Introduction

This procedure tells you how to set up the VMC Multi-Auger Chip Conveyor (MACC) system for operation.

  1. Safety Skirt
  2. Chip Conveyor
  3. Trough Extension/Drip Pan

Shipping Bracket Removal

1

Press [POWER OFF].

Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position.

Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag.

2

Remove two hex head bolts that attach the lower bracket [1] to the wings on either side of the conveyor.

Remove the three SHCS that attach the bracket to the inside of the machine.

Install the hex head bolts back in the conveyor. Be careful not to strip the rivet nuts in the conveyor.

3

Remove the two socket head screws and the two button head screws from the shipping brackets [1] on each side.

4

Hold the conveyor while you remove the screws that attach the upper bracket [1] to the enclosure roof [2].

Some conveyor models ship with a tensioning bracket [3] attached to the conveyor head. It uses springs to keep the belt under tension in the shipping position.

Loosen the wing nuts at the top of the bracket to remove the tensioning springs and cable loops.

Remove the tensioning bracket [3] from the conveyor head.

5

Remove the hex head bolts [1] from the top of the conveyor.

NOTE: Hold the conveyor while removing the HHB. The conveyor will drop after removing the bolts from both sides.

WARNING: The conveyor chute is heavy and may result in serious injury. Stay clear of the conveyor chute while removing the holding bolts.

6

Carefully lower the conveyor lift section [1] into operating position.

Install the screws back in the enclosure roof.

7

For VF-7/9/10/11:

Remove the button head screws from the conveyor and from the shipping bracket to the enclosure as shown.

Remove the trough shipping bracket and carefully slide the conveyor into the machine.

Install the conveyor to the enclosure of the machine.

8

For VF-7/9/10/11:

Slide the auger chip wings [1] up back into place.

Tighten the bolts [2].

Belt Tension Adjustment

1

Remove the conveyor lift section access cover from the conveyor head. This cover may have already been removed for shipping.

2

Tighten the belt tensioning screws at either side of the conveyor head to adjust the belt drive shaft and remove slack from the belt.

NOTE: Adjust the screws equally to keep the drive shaft perpendicular to belt travel. Refer to the belt tension decal located on the conveyor as a reference for positioning the bolts.

3

While adjusting belt tensioning screws, inspect belt slack [1] at the center of the belt in the lift section of the conveyor. The belt is correctly tensioned when slack is approximately 3/8'' (9.5 mm).

Apply the jam nut on each tensioning screw to lock it in place.

Install the access cover.

Chip Conveyor Setup

1

NOTE: If the conveyor leg is not shipped attached to the conveyor, you will find it packed inside the machine enclosure.

Attach the conveyor leg through the top three threaded holes in the sides of the conveyor.

Let the foot drop to the floor, then install and tighten the screws and nuts to lock the foot in place.

2

The conveyor head may have either a hinged or a bolt-on hood. Use the supplied hardware to install the hood.

3

Test-fit the skirt bracket [1] to the conveyor to determine the “back” of the bracket (the end closest to the conveyor lift section). The ends of the skirt [4] should meet at the center of the back of the bracket when assembled [2].

Remove the nut plates [3] from the skirt bracket [1].

Install the skirt [4] to the bracket [1], starting and ending at the center of the back of the bracket. Attach the skirt with the screws and nut plates [3].

4

Install the skirt/bracket assembly to the discharge area of the chip conveyor using (4) 1/4-20 screws

5

Connect the chip conveyor to power at the side of the machine.

Press [POWER ON].

Test the chip conveyor for proper orientation.

IMPORTANT: Tuck or coil the power cable with a zip-tie or velcro to reduce hazards and damage to the cable.
