3rd Party TSC - Integration Aid

Introduction

This document is intended to aid in the integration of a 3rd party TSC motor to a Haas machine with the Next Generation Control (NGC). Haas Service  personnel can help to make sure that the CNC machine operates correctly. 

Danger: Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not fully understand. If you have any doubts about doing a procedure contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service visit.

WARNING: There are a number of elements that are needed to install 3rd Party options on a Haas Machine. It is the responsibility of the customer to choose a 3rd Party manufacturer and integrator to successfully install these options to the Haas machine. The 3rd Party ption must meet the specification found in this document. The Haas Service and Applications staff will help to ensure the CNC machine is functioning properly, but is not responsible for setup or system integration of the 3rd Party option.

Machine Requirements:

  • Deadhead Pressure cannot exceed: 1300 PSI  

The THIRD PARTY TSC FIELD INSTALL are applicable to the following machines:

  • DT-1/2
  • DM-1/2
  • EC-Series
  • VC-Series
  • UMC-Series
  • VF-Series
  • VM-2
  • VM-3
  • VM-6
  • VS-3 

Power Requirements

The pump motor must satisfy the following electrical requirements to integrate to the Haas machine. 

WARNING: Motors outside of Haas specifications may not function as intended and Haas service are not responsible for such motors. 

  1. Three phase motor, 230VAC, 50/60Hz
  2. Power: 3 HP nominal.
  3. Full load current: 8 Arms Nominal (60Hz)/ 9.5 Arms Nominal (50Hz)
  4. 30-minute duty minimum.
  5. Inrush/locked rotor current not to exceed 53 Arms for 1.5 seconds.
  6. TEFC, No thermal cutout.
  7. Power cable connector type: L14-20P (black, white, red, green).

Haas recommends the power cable to be a L15-20P (Black – Z, White – X, Red – Y, Green – G) type to be compatible with our receptacle (L15-20R) on the coolant connector bracket. 

Customers have the option to change power cables as needed so long as the power cable satisfies our electrical requirements and meets electrical safety standards. 

Wire the motor, Haas recommends to follow the motor wiring shown in this image. Motor wiring should be such that when TSC is enabled coolant is pumped out of the coolant tank.

 NOTE: Motor wire colors can vary from vendor to vendor.

Please verify the following TSC motor motion after wiring the motor:

 NOTE: Any two leads can be swapped to change the direction of the 3-phase motor.

Physical Requirements

The envelope dimensions for Haas pumps are shown in the image. 

  1.  Height: ~20 inches (508 mm)
  2. Pump housing Dimension: ~11.5 inches (292.1 mm)
  3. Flange dimension: ~ 13 inches (330.2 mm)
  4. Width: ~9 inches (228.6 mm)

NOTE: It is recommended to choose a pump & motor assembly that is similar to ours to fit our coolant tank without customization. However, other pumps may be chosen and is the responsibility of the customer to integrate it following our requirements.  

The measurements mentioned in the step prior is a rough estimation of the Haas pump and motor assembly. Haas recommends measuring the cavity where the pump is placed for proper dimensions. 

NOTE: Larger sized pump housings can be placed, but will require customization of the coolant tank. This may void warranty, please consult with Haas Service before customizing the coolant tank.

Installation Aid

Machines ordered with this option will come as TSC ready. The machine will include the output hose to the TSC union and the auto clean air hose (pink hose).

Customers will intergrate their 3rd party pump and motor to our TSC system. It is recommended to integrate the auto clean function to the pump as, to avoid contamination issues in the future. If customers do not want to integrate this, they can unplug the auto clean solenoid. 

NOTE: Make sure the motor follows the requirements stated in the introduction

 NOTE: Haas uses a positive displacement, external gear pump system other types of pumps can be used but will require special consideration when intergrating, Make sure the pump does not surpass the deadhead pressure listed in the introduction.

VF/VM machines

The output hose on the standard vertical machines can be found under the control cabinet cavity as shown in the image

DT/DM Machines:

The output hose on the DT/DM machines can be found in the side channel as shown in the image.

EC/VC Machines

The output hose on the standard horizontal machines can be found coiled near the coolant filer on the sheet metal.

UMC Machines

The output hose on the UMC series can be found coiled near the coolant filer on the sheet metal as shown in the image.

VS Machines

The output hose on the VS series can be found coiled inside a box that is placed with the column assembly as shown in the image.
