Overview

The ST-35L(Y) long-bed turning center further enhances the already large range of Haas ST series models. The ST-35L provides roughly double the Z-axis travel of the standard ST-35 for machining longer parts, while maintaining superior cutting performance. The ST-35L is completely re-engineered from the ground up to create a more rigid and better performing machine. It offers a wide selection of productivity-enhancing options, and more features and value than ever before.

Improved Tailstock Design Standard

Our improved tailstock design provides consistent pressure to hold the workpiece, and allows setting the hydraulic pressure as low as 60 psi (4.1 bar) to minimize part deformation when machining thin parts. The Acme screw drive system provides better tailstock support during heavy roughing operations.

Set up is quick and easy through a dedicated page in the Haas control, and the tailstock can be operated via M-code, foot pedal, or through the device manager in the Haas control.

Extended Tool Pocket Standard

The Extended Tool Pocket is a standard feature on all long-bed ST models. This allows the use of boring bars up to 30" (762 mm) long in the turret, when the Z axis is at maximum negative travel.

  • Allows for quick coolant return

Automatic Door (Optional)

The long-bed ST models are available with dual Auto Doors, reducing operator fatigue, and simplifying automation. The Auto Doors open automatically via M-code, or can be opened manually via a button on the control pendant. This reduces operator fatigue during repetitive machining operations, and allows for unattended operation when used with a robotic loader. The doors close automatically at Cycle Start, and can be controlled via settings to open at the end of a cycle, or at an Optional Stop.

NOTE: Availability my vary by region. Not available in Europe, except with robot and APL installations.

Steady Rest Provision (Optional)

The Steady Rest Provision provides a mounting platform and the necessary hydraulic lines to install an aftermarket steady rest on ST-30/L and ST-35/L lathes, including Y-axis models. A steady rest provides increased support for turning long shafts, and for facing and boring operations.

The platform accepts a variety of aftermarket manual or automatic hydraulic grippers. The steady rest mounting platform is manually positioned along the Z axis, and locked in place by a mechanical clamp. The steady rest provision is commanded using M-codes (M146 to clamp, and M147 to unclamp).

  • The provision provides a mounting plate and all necessary hydraulic lines and fittings for gripper activation (JIC-4 standard fittings)
  • Vendor packages will include all necessary hardware, mounting brackets, and maintenance instructions
  • Mounting plate details and dimensions are provided on the Haas machine layout drawings

Improved Part Loading Ergonomics

The compact footprint and redesigned sheetmetal of the new design yield a shorter distance between the door and center of the chuck for better ergonomics. The reduced reach to the chuck makes it easier for machine operators to manually load and unload parts.

Increased Wedge Angle

We’ve increased the angle of the wedge from 45 degrees to 55 degrees, which improves the overall chip flow inside the work envelope. This steeper inclination contributes to faster chip evacuation when using a chip conveyor (optional).

Scissor Style Z-Axis Way Cover

The Haas long-bed ST models include a scissor-style Z-axis way cover for long-term, low-maintenance performance.

WiFi Connectivity Standard

All Haas machines come standard with built-in WiFi for fast, wireless connectivity between the Haas control and a local area network. Use WiFi to easily share and transfer files wirelessly, and monitor your machine remotely via HaasConnect mobile machine monitoring. It is easily set up through the Haas control, and supports Netshare capabilities.
