Remove the Baldor motor, TRP assembly, and Spindle per the following:

• Remove the head covers.
• Remove the spindle motor [3] using the lift bracket [2]. Be sure to disconnect the encoder cables and terminal block cables.
• Save the encoder for installation onto the new motor [1].
• Remove the spindle [7] per Steps 1-3 in the following procedure: Inline Spindle - Replacement - Removal
  • Note: Use the red plastic spindle cap to protect the spindle during removal
    
• Remove the TRP [5] and spacers [4], [6].

Next, drill and tap holes into the spindle head to make the hole pattern compatible with the new TRP:

To do this, install the Drill Jig Plate Tool (T-0101).

Fasten the plate to the spindle head [1].

Drill and tap 4 EA x (3/8-16) holes through the holes with bushings. (5/16" Drill to a depth of 1"; 3/8-16 Tap to a depth of 0.75")

 Note: Follow the directed drill depths or you will risk drilling through and breaking into the casting's coolant passages.

Install the new TRP assembly onto the spindle head using 4x SHCS 3/8"-16 x 2" .

Install the new pin drive spindle and Yaskawa motor per the following installation procedures:

• Install spindle motor, use the new universal lifting bracket [2]: VMC - 40-Taper - Pin Drive Motor - Replacement
• Install the spindle: make sure to align the pins [3]. The rubber bushings in the spindle coupler can get stuck or crushed and cause spindle to motor misalignment. Leave the motor bolts loose, align the pins, and slightly rotate the motor by hand until the pins slip into place: Inline Pin-Drive Spindle - Replacement
  • Note: Install the protective plastic red cap on the spindle nose before installing the spindle
    

Transfer the encoder [1] from the Baldor motor and install it to the Yaskawa motor.

Note: Inspect the pulley and belt on the encoder. If there is noticable wear replace immediately. Worn components could damage the new motor and spindle.

Install the encoder [1]:

Install 25-6293A [4] and 25-6298 [5] to the motor using 4 EA of 40-1645 (SHCS 10-32 x 5/8).

Attach [5] to [4] using 2 EA of 59-0742 [6].

Modify and install motor shroud:

The existing motor shroud may need the following modifications:

Cut off exisiting motor shroud legs if necessary [3].

Drill 8 x 0.265" (17/64" drill bit) diameter holes in the shown locations (red) on the shroud.

4 holes on panel [1] and 4 holes on panel [2]. The holes are through-all to both sides.

• 9.50" height from top of shroud to first set of holes
• 2.25" height to second set of holes
• 3.50" width across holes

The dimensions are referenced from the panel centerline.

Locate the centerline (blue) from the center distance of the square cutout in the bottom of the shroud.

The holes are used for mounting the shroud to the universal shroud mount and lifting bracket.

Adjust push-out, set spindle offsets, and test spindle:

Prime the lube line that runs to the spindle. Verify you see oil drop in the sight glass.

Verify droplets of oil are making it through the line and to the lubrication port before running.

Adjust the Tool Release Piston: Refer to 30/40 Taper - Tool Release Piston - Sensor Adjustment - VMC

Set the Z-axis Tool Change and Spindle Orientation Offsets:

• Side-Mount Tool Changer Offsets:
  • Set Z-Axis Tool Change Offset for Side-Mount Tool Changers: CHC or NGC
  • Set Spindle Orientation Offset For Side-Mount Tool Changers: CHC or NGC
• Umbrella Tool Changer Offsets:
  • Set Z-Axis Tool Change Offset for Umbrella Tool Changers: CHC or NGC
    
  • Set Spindle Orientation Offset for Umbrella Tool Changers: CHC or NGC.
    

Run the spindle break-in program: Spindle - Programs (Run-in, Warm-up, Break-in)

Run Spindle Sweep.

Run a Vibration Analysis to verify the spindle is passing vibration. Save the plots and send to a technician at the factory to attach to the machine serial number history for the customer's records.

Balance the spindle if necessary.

Install shroud and remaining sheeting metal.
