The Haas UMC-1500-DUO is like having two machines in one: a powerful 5-axis universal machining center, and a versatile 3-axis vertical machining center. We’ve taken our industry-leading UMC-750 universal machining center, expanded its X-axis travel, and added a stationary 32" x 18" T-slot table next to the dual-axis trunnion.

Use the stationary table to set up workholding for first operations – like cutting dovetails on your 5-axis material – or to machine the 6th side of your completed 5-axis parts. Or, because the stationary table and trunnion platter (at B0) are at the same height, you can fixture parts across both, and use the machine’s full X-axis travel to machine long parts.

Overview


The UMC-1500-DUO* is a versatile dual-station vertical machining center that combines the 5-axis capability of our UMC-750 with a stationary T-slot table for 3-axis work. The machine offers double the X-axis travels of the standard UMC-750, and incorporates the design improvements introduced with the latest UMC models.

The right-side station is the standard integrated 2-axis trunnion rotary table from the UMC-750, and the left station is a stationary 32" x 18" (813 mm x 457 mm) T-slot table.

Dual-Station Work Environment


The UMC-1500-DUO features a large 32" x 18" (813 mm x 457 mm) stationary T-slot table on the left that allows rigid setups for heavy material removal operations, using industry-standard table vises. There is enough room on the table to accomodate one or two 6" (152 mm) vises. The stationary table is also perfect for setting up first operations – like cutting dovetails on your 5-axis material – or for machining the 6th side of your completed 5-axis parts    

The integrated dual-axis trunnion on the right has a 500 mm (19.7") diameter platter that features standard T-slots and a precision pilot bore for fixturing versatility. The trunnion provides +120 and -35 degrees of tilt and 360 degrees of rotation for high-quality, accurate 3+2 or full 5-axis simultaneous machining work. 

Because the stationary table and trunnion platter (at B0) are at the same height, you can fixture parts across both, and use the machine’s full X-axis travel to machine long parts    

Cycloidal Rotary Drives

The cycloidal rotary drive system – designed for machine tools and robotics – provides a great combination of speed, accuracy, and durability on both the B and C axes. The rugged design provides long service life, with little or no maintenance, and is especially durable in a crash. The cycloidal rotary drive can be back driven to absorb energy from an impact. The shock-load capacity is 5 times the rated torque of the gearbox, and the entire gearbox is a simple drop-in replacement, should damage occur. 

Operator Door Improvements


The UMC-1500-DUO door mounts inside the enclosure, which raises the bottom of the enclosure opening, and provides better chip control. 

Control Pendant Mount


The internal mounting design of the UMC-1500-DUO door allows the control pendant to be mounted to the front of the machine, in an operator-friendly position.  

Operator Convenience Features

The UMC-1500-DUO’s operator convenience features are mounted to the front of the machine for easy access, including a toolholder storage rack, work table, toolholder vise, storage tray, and washdown hose.

Side-Window Design

Placing the control pendant in the front of the UMC-1500-DUO allowed us to enlarge the side window and make it slide open. This provides access to the machine’s platter, and also allows a pallet pool or other automation to be added to the machine.

Base Casting and Coolant Tank

The UMC-1500-DUO base casting is stiff and rigid, improving cut performance, and allowing the use of our standard 55-gallon (208 liter) rollaway coolant tank, for easy cleaning and maintenance. An optional 95-gallon (360 liter) coolant tank is also available, and both tanks accept our Oil Skimmer and Coolant Refill options to further enhance productivity.
