To select a VQC template:

Press [MDI/DNC].

Press [PRGRM/CONVRS].

Go to the VQC tab.

Select the Probe Template (O09996).

Navigate to Probe Calibration.

There are three templates:

• Calibrate OTS Length and Diameter
• Spindle Probe Z Calibration off OTS
• Spindle Probe X,Y Calibration

Press [WRITE/ENTER] to select Calibrate OTS Length and Diameter.

OTS Probe Calibration

Put a gage pin of a known length and diameter in the spindle.

Jog the spindle to the center of the OTS probe, 0.4" (10 mm) above the OTS stylus.

Type the tool length and tool diameter.

Enter -2 if the OTS is set up on the left side of the table, or 2 if it is set up on the right side.

Press [WRITE/ENTER].

Select Option 3, Output to MDI.

The G-code program generated during the calibration setup is output to MDI.

Run the program.

OSI Probe Calibration

Navigate to the second calibration option, Spindle Probe Z Calibration off OTS.

Press [WRITE/ENTER].

Mount an OMP40-2 probe in the spindle.

Jog the Z Axis in the negative (-) direction until the OMP40-2 is just above the OTS.

Type the tool pocket number of the tool pocket that has the OMP40-2 probe.

Press [WRITE/ENTER].

Select Option 3, Output to MDI.

The G-code program generated during the calibration setup is output to MDI.

Run the program.

Navigate to the third calibration option, Spindle Probe X,Y Calibration.

Stylus Diameter Calibration

Mount a ring gauge to the table.

Jog the OMP40 probe stylus to the approximate center of the gauge.

Put the probe tip slightly below the top surface of the gauge.

Type the internal diameter of the ring gauge.

Press [WRITE/ENTER]. 

Select Option 3, Output to MDI.

The G-code program generated during the calibration setup is output to MDI.

Run the program.

Spindle Probe 1-9

Templates under the Spindle Probe 1-9 heading are:

• Probe Bore
• X Plus Surface
• X Minus Surface
• Y Plus Surface

• Vise (or part) Corner.

Probe Bore Template

Open the Probe Bore template.

This program measures the diameter and position of a bore. It updates the work offset with the bore center-point.

Put the G-code for the work offset in the Wrkofset field. Do not type the G, just the number. For example, to use work coordinate position G54, type in 54. To use work coordinate position G154 P22, type 154.22.

Type in the diameter of the bore.

Output the program to MDI.

Run the program.

Spindle Probe 10-18

Templates under the Spindle Probe 10-18 heading are:

• Probe Boss
• Probe X Pocket
• Probe Y Pocket
• Probe X Web
• Probe Y Web
• External corner
• Internal Corner

Probe Boss Template

Open the Probe Boss template.

This program is similar to the Probe Bore program, but has the added input of the Z Depth (a negative value to put the probe tip below the surface of the part).

Tool Setting Heading

Go back to the VQC tab.

Navigate to Auto Length Only Sequential Tools.

Press [WRITE/ENTER].

Auto Length Only, Sequential Tools

The comments means that this template should only be used for tools whose length can be accurately measured on the 0.5" (12 mm) OTS sensor stylus disk. It can not be used for larger tools, such as a 2" (50 mm) fluted end mill.
