Rotary - Removal - TR - TRT - T5C - AD0247

- Jump to Section - Back to Top

Introduction

This procedure tells you how to remove a TR, TRT, or T5C rotary from a Haas VMC. For these instructions, the trunnion axis is the A Axis (TILT). The platter axis is the B Axis (ROTARY).

Prerequisites:

Refer to the Tools Required section for images of these tools:

To find the weight of your rotary go to www.haascnc.com. Use the Search function to find the rotary model. Select the rotary model from the list results. Find the weight in the "Specifications" section.

  • Lifting Chain or Strap [1] - The chain or strap must be rated for the weight of the rotary.
  • Spreader Beam [2] - A spreader beam is recommended to keep the lifting chains vertical. It must be rated to the weight for the rotary. The width of the spreader beam must be the same as the width between the lifting eye bolts.
  • Lifting Device [3] - A lifting device, such as a forklift, lifting hoist, etc, must be rated for the weight of the rotary.
Machine Compatibility:
  • All VMCs
  • For a TRT100, the machine must have software version M18.24A or higher.
Tools Required:
  1. Lifting Chain
  2. Spreader Beam
  3. Lifting Device

Rotary - TR/TRT/T5C - Lifting Instruction

Lift the rotary table with the lift rings as shown to prevent damage to the gear set. Attach an air supply to the rotary before you lift it. All rotary tables (HRT, TR, TRT, and T5C) use the 1/2-13 eyebolts. Haas Automation, Inc. does not supply lifting chains or straps for rotary products.

Warning: LIFTING A ROTARY WHILE NOT CONNECTED TO AIR MAY DAMAGE THE ROTARY.

If spreader bars are not available, eyebolts may be used as shown:

TR500SS

To lift the TR500SS, position your lifting mechanism above the center of gravity [1] to ensure the rotary is lifted uniformly.

Lift the machine from the eye bolts near the A frame [2] and the lifting bracket [4].

NOTE: Use straps [3] or something that won't damage the platter, as lifting it from this location will interfere with the platter.

TRT310 being lifted with two hooks.

Lifting TRT 160 and TRT 210

There are two ways to lift the TRT160 and TRT210.

1. Use the center hole on the top of the rotary. The center hole has 1/2-13 threads. Using this hole is similar to how the TRT100 is shown being lifted above. These two models will not come with the eye bolt for this hole.

2. Use the two holes beside the center hole. The two holes on the side have M8-1.25 threads. These rotaries can be lifted similarly to how the TRT310 is lifted in the image. These units will come with the eyebolts that fit in these holes. These eye bolts have an ID of 0.75 inches (19 mm).

TRT 310

Unlike the two smaller rotaries, the TRT310 has no central hole that can be used for lifting. Also, these two side holes are larger than on the smaller models being 1/2-13 threads with the eyes having an ID of 1-1/8 inch.

The TRT310 must be lifted using a sling with two hooks, as shown in the picture. A spreader bar is not needed.

The TRT310 weighs about 1000 pounds. Verify that appropriate lifting equipment is ready for installation.

Rotary - TR/TRT/T5C - Removal

1

Center the table and jog it to the front of the machine near the door. Turn ("tilt") A axis 90 degrees to access the T-Nuts.

Press [EMERGENCY STOP].

Loosen the T-Nuts. Remove only the inner T-Nuts [4], the 1/2-13 double-threaded studs [3], washers [2], and nuts [1].

Note: You need the outer T-Nuts [4], the 1/2-13 double-threaded studs [3], washers [2], and nuts [1] to keep the rotary stable until you remove it. See AD0334 for instructions on removing TR rotaries.

Home the A axis.

Note: The A Axis must be in the home position to be moved. This will prevent damage to the rotary.

Note: When removing an integrated trunnion from a VF-TR, a service kit will need to be ordered. This kit will have a standard TR310 or TR210 base and shipping brackets. Order 93-2127 for VF-5TR and 93-2126 for VF-6TR. Follow the instructions in VF-5TR, VF-6TR - Integrated Trunnion Removal and Installation - AD0334 to remove the trunnion.

Rotary - Disable

This procedure tells you how to disable a rotary axis. When you disable a rotary axis, you can prevent it from moving but keep it configured.

A rotary axis is enabled when it has a mark [3] to the left of the rotary axis. The rotary axis is enabled in the Position [4] screen.

Select the rotary axis [1] to disable.

Push [ENTER].

The mark for the rotary axis goes away [5].

The axis goes away from the Position screen [6].

If necessary, do this step again for the other rotary axis [2].

Note: If you intend to lift the rotary, see the lifting instructions in the rotary manual 3.1 Lifting Instructions.

Rotary - Clear

This procedure tells you how to clear a rotary axis configuration from the Current Rotary Selection. Do this procedure when you remove a rotary unit from the machine, and you must install a different rotary unit.

Push [EMERGENCY STOP].

Push [ORIGIN] to clear the rotaries.

The$Clear Rotary Configuration [1] display shows.

Push [ENTER] [2].

Power cycle the machine.

The rotary configurations are cleared from the rotary selection.

Warning: If you are removing a rotary, it must be connected to

Note: If you intend to lift the rotary, see the lifting instructions in the rotary manual 3.1 Lifting Instructions.

Disable Rotary Axes - CHC

1

Release [EMERGENCY STOP].

Change Setting 30 4TH AXIS ENABLE to OFF. Push [ENTER].

Save the file with a unique file name. Use less than (12) characters. Push [ENTER].

Change Setting 78 5TH AXIS ENABLE to OFF. Push [ENTER].

Save the file with a unique file name. Use less than (12) characters. Push [ENTER].

Push [POWER OFF].

Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position.

Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag.

Disconnect all of the rotary cables from the control. Make sure the rotary air hose is connected to an air supply. The air pressure engages the brake on each rotary axis.

Rotary Blocking

1

Install the standoffs, and shipping brackets on:

  • The right rear [1] of a TR160/210.
  • The top [2] of a TR160Y.
  • The rear center [3] of a TRT100.

Note: T5C do not have a shipping bracket.

For a TR310, install the (2) T-nuts on the rotary platter. Install the (4) 1/2-13 screws and washers [5] and [6] to the shipping bracket [4].

Remove the cable from the clamp, the clamp and cut the zip ties. Coil the cables on the rotary.

Remove the T-Nuts, the 1/2-13 double-threaded studs, washers, and nuts.

Note: You may not be able to remove all of the T-Nuts until you lift the rotary.

2

Install the lifting chains [1] and the spreader beam [2].

 Caution:

  • Use a spreader beam, chains, and the air hose connected to an air supply to prevent damage to the rotary.
  • Use a spreader beam to make sure the chains stay vertical.
  • Make sure the A Axis is in the home position to prevent damage to the rotary.

Refer to the "Rotary - TR/TRT/T5C – Lifting Instructions" at the end of the procedure for more information.

3

Remove the rotary from the machine. If necessary remove the locating pins and the alignment keys [1] from the rotary.

Slide the T-Nuts off the table.

Disconnect the air hose from the air supply. This disengages the brakes on both of the rotary's axes.

Coil the tube and set it on the rotary.

Set the main circuit breaker to the ON position.

Release [EMERGENCY STOP].

Push [POWER ON]. No alarms will occur if the rotary removal is done correctly.
