Route the servo motor power and encoder cables from the top of the electrical cabinet [2].

Connect the power wires to the high voltage terminals on the amplifier [3]:

  • red to RED
  • white to WHT
  • black to BLK

Install the jumpers [4] from the nearest amplifier to the 30-Amp servo-amplifier:

  • Connect the black wire to -H.V..
  • Connect the red wire to +H.V..

Connect the ground stud [5] to the chassis.

Install the ferrite filter (NGC kits only) to the motor power cables.

Connect the current command cable [6] to the connector at the top of the amplifier to Maincon.

  • CHC: P5
  • NGC: Channel 7, P7

Connect the encoder cable to the Maincon [7].

  • CHC: P9
  • NGC: Channel 7, P23

4

Remove the cover [1] from the top of the enclosure. This gives you access to the opening.

Put the turret power cable, encoder cable [3] and the air tubes [2] through the opening in the cabinet.

Put the air tubes [2] and cables [3] into the coolant hose conduit [4].

5

Remove the cross-slide way cover [4].

Remove the cover plate [9] for the coolant hose. Remove the breakout tab [8] from the cover plate.

Remove the coolant hose assembly [7].

Install the ATT-4 turret [1] onto the (2) outer holes [5] of the cross-slide.

Install the ATT-8 turret [2] onto the (2) inner holes [6] of the cross-slide.

Keep the screws sufficiently loose for turret alignment.

Remove the servo-motor cover [3].

6

Pull the cables and air hoses from the coolant hose conduit [3].

Install the split conduit with the cables and hoses into the clamp [8].

Connect the (2) air tubes to the (2) air fittings [4].

Connect the power cable [5], and encoder cable [7] to the motor. Connect the home switch cable [6].

Note: Make sure all electrical connections are made inside of the motor compartment.

Install the cover plate [9]. Install the cross-slide way cover [2].

Install the cover for the servo-motor [1].

Install the cover for the upper cable channel and the top of the enclosure.

7

Install the extension tube [2] and the coolant hose assembly [1].

Connect the air supply.

Set the main circuit breaker to the ON position.

Push [POWER ON].

8

Important: Once clamped at each tool #, verify that the load is always below 5%.

  • Run the program for approximately 1 minute.
  • Throughout the execution of the program, verify proper clamping / unclamping of the turret, and tool # position as commanded by the program.
  • If it does not operate properly, ensure that the parameters were set correctly per the procedures above.
  • If tool changes are correct, but loads are above 5%, check the tool changer for any mechanical binding.

Turret - Alignment

1

Make sure the mounting screws are sufficiently loose to do the alignment procedure.

Put the tip of the indicator on the horizontal surface [1].

Jog the X axis to measure along the horizontal surface.

The error should be less than 0.002" (0.05 mm).

If the error is more than 0.002" (0.05 mm) across 5.5" (140 mm) of travel, use shims [2] to adjust the height of the turret. Use shims as necessary.

2

Put the indicator tip against the vertical surface [1].

Jog the X axis to measure along the vertical surface.

The error should be less than 0.001" (0.025 mm).

If the error is more than 0.001" (0.025 mm) across 5.5" (140 mm) of travel, lightly tap the base of the turret with a soft mallet.

3

Align the turret with the spindle centerline:

  • Install a toolholder [1] with a 1" (25.4 mm) bar [2] at tool position 1.
  • Attach an indicator [3] to the spindle.
  • Jog the X Axis until the bar [2] is at the center of the spindle.
  • Turn the spindle 360 degrees. Measure around the diameter [4] of the bar.

The error should be less than 0.001" (0.025 mm).

If the radial error is more than 0.001" (0.025 mm), use shims to adjust the height of the turret. Use shims as necessary.

Torque the (2) screws [5]. Refer to Haas Fastener Torque Specifications. Use the value for steel.

Make sure that the alignment of the turret is correct. If it is not, do this alignment procedure again.
