UMC Pallet Pool - Rotary Union Upgrade - Installation

AD0506

Introduction

1

This Procedure will explain how to replace the older version of the Pallet Pool rotary union with the new version.

NOTE: Only applies to UMC-1000 with version 1 Pallet Pool

Applies to:

  • 93-3231 ROTARY UNION UMC PP SERVICE KIT

Installation

1

Assemble the hydraulic manifold as shown:

[1] O-Ring 2-212 (4x)

[2] Reducer 1/4 NPT 1/4M NPT 1/8F

[3] PC 3/8F NPT 1/8M 90 DEGREE STL

[4] ORB4M JIC4M JIC4M STR STL

NOTE: There is an O-ring that should be on the side of the fitting that connects to the manifold

[5] JIC4M JIC4F 90 DEGREE

[6] ORB4M JIC4M 90 DEGREE

2

Connect the staff to the staff extension using [2] SHCS 1/4-20 X 5/8 make sure the O-Ring 2-011 [1] are seated in the cavaties of the shaft.

Torque the bolts to their required specs.

3

Press the [E-brake].

Use the SHCS 1/3-13 bolts [1] to remove the receiver spud [2] to access the shaft bolt.

Using a long T-handle to access & loosen the SHCS 1/4-20 bolt [3]. DO NOT remove the bolt yet.

NOTE: If the E-STOP is not engaged you will not be able to remove the spud and loosen the bolt as the platter/pallet will spin freely.

4

Before removing the hydraulic manifold you must make sure to depressurize the HPU.

You can do so by turning off the breaker on the TMD card [1].

Go into PALLET RECOVERY setting and actuate the CLAMP and UNCLAMP function.

Press [DIAGNOSTIC] and on the diagnostics tab make sure the hydraulic pressure gauge drops to zero. That will tell you that there is no pressure in the system.

5

Rotate the B-axis 90 degrees [1] and remove the cover.

6

Remove the M6 bolts  [1] to remove the anit-rotation block/prox sensors [2].

7

Remove the hydraulic lines from the hydraulic manifold.

Using snap ring pliers remove the snap ring [1] to remove the hydraulic manifold [2].

NOTE: A gear puller is highly recommended to remove the hydraulic manifold. The O-rings are very compressed to the shaft and can get difficult without one.

8

Remove the SHCS 1/4-20 bolts to remove the shaft.

9

Reassemble the new shaft assembly [1] to the receiver by using the SHCS 1/4-20 bolt [2].

Make sure there are O-ring 2-011 in the cavities on the shaft [3].

10

If the read head is in configuration [1] you will need to clock it to position [2]  this will require you to redo the compensations on the machine.

If the read head is in configuration [2] the compensations will not need to be redone.

Torque the bolts to their required specs.

Please contact service about borrowing a swivel checker to redo the compensations.

11

Attach the anti-rotation block [3] to the gearbox using the M6 bolts [4].

Torque the bolts to their required specs.

12

Install the new hydraulic manifold [1] using a new snap ring [2] given in the kit. Do not reuse the old snap ring.

13

Install the prox sensors and bracket assembly [1].

14

Re-attach the hydraulic hoses to the hydraulic manifold, make sure to correctly hook up the correct line. Red [1] corresponds to clamp hose and the orange [2] to the unclamp.

To verify which line belongs to which, check the HPU manifold they are labeled on the HPU.

If they are incorrectly installed the system will operate in reverse. If this is done bleed the system to zero pressure and reverse the hoses.

15

Reinstall the new cover [2] and return the rotary [1] to 0 degree's on the B axis.

16

Turn on the breaker on the TMD card [1].

Go into PALLET RECOVERY setting and actuate the CLAMP and UNCLAMP function to pressurize the system.

Press [DIAGNOSTIC] and on the diagnostics tab make sure the HPU gauge is reading pressure.

17

Press the [E-STOP].

Torque the SHCS 1/4-20 that connects the shaft to the correct spec.

Reassemble the reciver coupler [2] using the SHCS 1/3-13 bolts[1].

Torque the bolts to their required specs.

18

Do a final check on the entire system to make sure there are no hydraulic leaks and check if the prox sensors are installed correctly. This can be done by CLAMPING and UNCLAMPING the cylinder in the pallet recovery setting.
