Introduction

After you install a 16DP-C gearbox:

  1. Connect the cable for the low-level sensor for a 16DP-C gearbox.
  2. Set the correct parameter values for a 16DP-C gearbox.

Perform this procedure on these machines:

  1. ST-30/40
  2. SL-30/40
  3. TL-3B/3W

Gearbox - 16DP-C - Low-Level Sensor Cable - Installation

Perform this procedure on machines made before February 2014. This procedure tells you how to connect the cable for the low-level sensor.

 Note: Replacement 16DP-C gearboxes do not require an oil pump.

Connect the low-level sensor cable [1] to the LOW GEARBOX OIL PRESS STATUS CBL 890 port [2] on the 16DP-M gearbox bracket.

 Caution: Make sure that the parameters are correct. Use the Parameter Checker program. Use menu item 7.

 Note: For machines with Lathe 11.08 or higher, you must set Parameter 1310 ENABLE GEAR BOX OIL LEVEL SENSOR to 1 and Parameter 57:26 TRANS OIL LOW PRESS to 0.

 Note: For machines with Lathe 11.07 or lower, Parameter 1310 is not available. You must set Parameter 57:26 TRANS OIL LOW PRESS to 0.

Gearbox - 16DP-C - Parameter Setup

This document tells you how to set the correct parameter values for a 16DP-C gearbox.

Find the spindle encoder. Look at parameter 79. A value of 8192 tells you that you have a magnetic spindle encoder. A value of 8000 tells you that you have an optical spindle encoder.

Use the tables that follow for the correct parameter values. If you have a magnetic spindle encoder, get the values from the magnetic encoder columns. If you have an optical spindle encoder, get the values from the optical encoder columns. It is not recommended to run one magnetic and one optical encoder. They should be the same type for the spindle and motor encoders.

 Caution: Make sure that the parameters are correct. Use the Parameter Checker program. Use menu item 7.

Parameter 79 - Spindle encoder steps per revolution.

Parameter 150 - Max spindle RPM low gear.

Parameter 183 - Spindle max frequency.

 Note: The Parameter 183 information shown in the document is the initial value. You change this value in the next procedure.

Parameter 187 - Spindle motor high gear steps per revolution.

Parameter 239 - Spindle encoder steps per revolution.

Parameter 1310 - Enable gearbox oil level sensor.

 Note: Parameter 1310 is only on machines with software version 11.08A or higher.

Parameter 57:26 - Transmission oil low pressure.

 Note: If you install a 16DP-C on a lathe made before February 2014, make sure this parameter is on.

Gearbox - 16DP-C - Spindle Speed - Calibrate

This procedure tells you how to set the Parameter 183 value for a 16DP-C gearbox. You must contact Haas factory service to obtain the code to change parameter 183.

To operate the spindle at the maximum RPM:

  1. Get the maximum spindle RPM from Parameter 131.
  2. Operate this code in MDI mode:

M42 ;

M03 S1000 ;

For this example, the value of Parameter 131 was set to 1000. Thus, you use the code S1000

 Caution: If the operator used G50 to put a limit on the spindle speed, the code in step 1 does not operate the spindle at the maximum RPM. Find if the operator used a G50 code. Do these steps:

  1. Press [CURRENT COMMANDS].

  2. Press [PAGE UP] or [PAGE DOWN] until you get to the [ALL ACTIVE CODES] display.

Record the S code for G50. In this example, the code is 600 [1].

If the operator used a G50 code, you must change the value. For example, operate this code in [MDI] mode:

G50 S1000 ;

Compare the SPINDLE SPEED [1] to the COMMANDED RPM [2].

Make sure the difference is not more than 5 RPM. If the difference is more than 5 RPM, do step 4.

Adjust Parameter 183 in increments of +/- 100.

For example, if the value in Parameter 183 is 8000, change it to 7900 or 8100.

Do this procedure again and again. Do this until the difference between SPINDLE SPEED and COMMANDED RPM is a maximum of 5 RPM.

Change the S for G50 back to its initial value. For example, if the intitial value was 600, operate this code in MDI mode:
