Dual Spindle Lathes

If you are installing a Cabcool on a dual spindle lathe you might run an interference issue as seen on the images on the left side. Contact Haas support for the extension, 79-0300 PWR EXT CORD [1], that will take care of this issue.

Control Cabinet Cooler - System Overview Video

Introduction

The cabinet cooler is attached to the CNC control cabinet door. It is an air conditioning unit that maintains the temperature inside the control cabinet ~ 20°F cooler than ambient temperature. The unit is powered by the Haas control and turns on automatically when the temperature inside the cabinet rises above 100°F.

Symptom Table

Symptom Possible Cause Corrective Action
The Cabinet Cooler does not turn ON or OFF. Blown fuse. Replace the fuse.   Make sure the fuse is a 30A 250V Glass Fast Blow.
Tripped GFCI. Reset the GFCI.
Bad thermostatic switch. Replace the Cabinet Cooler electrical assembly.
The temperature settings are not set correctly. Look through the inner chiller cover and make sure the temperature controls are set to Max Cool and HI Cool.  On some models, you may need to remove the cover to set the knob studs to the correct position.
Not enough airflow from the Cabinet Cooler. Clogged intake filter Clean or replace the intake filter.
The temperature settings are not set correctly. Look through the inner chiller cover and make sure the temperature controls are set to Max Cool and HI Cool.  On some models, you may need to remove the cover to set the knob studs to the correct position.
Not enough  airflow from the CabCool Jammed or broken fan blade Check for debris in the fan or replace the unit if it is broken
Bussing sound from the AC unit Bad compressor Replace the AC unit
Condensation/leaking water AC unit is plugged into test plug/coolant chiller plug; this is not a temperature controlled operation plug. Plug into the designated operation side
CabCool is not level Make sure the CabCool enclosure is level and not bent
Excessive humidity or temperature Place bucket under the CabCoolenclosure
The machine shuts off when the CabCool turns on. The CabCool thermal switch outlet (32-0376A) wiring is in the same phase that PSUP monitors for low voltage conditions. See the CabCool Power Outlet Wiring Verification section.
The fuse blows on the power outlet bracket when the Cabcool unit starts. The incorrect fuse has been installed. Ensure the fuse is a 30A 250V Glass Fast Blow 86-1804.
CabCool does not turn on when the temperature in the electrical cabinet is above the target temperature on the CabCool outlet bracket.  The fuse is incorrectly set in the fuse holder.  Pull the fuses out of the fuse holder and apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the end that goes into the fuse holder's cap. Put the fuses back in the holder. There should be a small amount of spring when the fuse holder caps are pushed down.
The GFCI outlet tripped after the machine is powered on.  Short in the CabCool. Check for a short in the CabCool. See "GFCI Outlet Tripping" below for details.

CabCool Power Outlet Wiring Verification

IMPORTANT:  Only do this for machines equipped with CabCool thermal switch outlet 32-0376A.

Make sure that the machine's incoming power system and CabCool have been verified.

For example, verify that the machine meets the correct voltage/wire size requirements and transformer taps locations have been verified.  Refer to the Power On/Off - Main Transformer - Troubleshooting Guide.

Turn Off the Main Circuit Breaker

Remove the transformer cover.

Swap the RED and BLACK leads from the CabCool POWER OUTLET cable 32-0376A at the transformer 120V OUT terminals.

Power

Symptom: CabCool does not turn on when the temperature in the control cabinet is higher than the target temperature [1].

Possible Cause: The fuse is not seated correctly in the fuse holder.

Corrective Action:  Remove the fuse from the fuse holder and apply dielectric grease to the end [2] that goes into the fuse holder cap [3]. After reinserting the fuse into the fuse holder, press down on the fuse holder cap [4] to see if it compresses and springs back. This will only go down a small amount.

Symptom: CabCool does not turn on.

Possible cause 1: The GFCI has tripped.

Corrective Action 1: Check the GFCI and reset it if it’s tripped. If it trips again, there is a short to the ground in the air conditioning unit. Check the Cabinet Cooler cable for damage and replace the Cabinet Cooler unit.

Possible cause 2: The Fuse has blown, or there is a short in the air conditioning unit.

Corrective Action 2: Check the fuse [1] on the Cabinet Cooler electrical assembly. If the fuse is blown, check the Cabinet Cooler cable for damage. Replace the fuse.

If the fuse blows again, there is a short, or the wrong fuse was used. The fuse must be 30A (PN: 86-1804). If the fuse is the correct rating, the issue is a short. To test this, plug the Cab cool into a known good outlet and test if it turns on and operates correctly.

If the fuse blows while plugged into a known good outlet, the short is in the CabCool, and the CabCool will need to be replaced.

If the fuse does not blow and the CabCool operates normally while plugged into a known good outlet. The short causing the fuse to blow is elsewhere in the electrical cabinet. If this is the case, the issue is likely with the transformer or breaker. Check the NGC - Circuit Breaker and Transformer chapter of this manual for troubleshooting information about those systems.

Possible cause 3: The Thermostatic switch is not functioning correctly.

Corrective Action 3: Check the operation of the thermostatic switch. Blow at the assembly with a heat gun. If the thermostatic switch does not activate, it must be replaced. Replace the Cabinet Cooler electrical assembly if the switch is not operating properly.

GFCI Outlet Tripping

Symptom: If the GFCI outlet trips immediately after being powered on, there may be a short in the CabCool. Perform the following test to determine if there is a short.

Test 1: Take resistance from Leg [1][2] to ground [3] should be OL. If the leg to the ground resistance is not OL, the CabCool should be replaced.

Test 2: The leg [1] to leg [2] resistance should also be taken. It should be a few ohms. (example 3.8 ohms). This number will vary between machines.

Corrective Action: If the CabCool is shorted then it should be replaced.

Filter

Symptom: Insufficient airflow into the control cabinet.

Possible cause: The air filter is clogged.

Corrective Action:

The Cabinet Cooler has an intake filter [1] on the bottom of the Cabinet Cooler unit. Inspect the filter periodically. Check if the filter is clogged. Clean or replace the filter if necessary.

Temperature Control Settings

The temperature controls are set at the factory.   Make sure the temperature controls are set to Max Cool and HI Cool.

Note: On some models, you may need to remove the cover to set the knob studs to the correct position.
